66th Emmy Award Nominations Announced

Today, the nominations for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced by hosts Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly.

Without surprise, HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones came out on top with 19 nominations, beating FX’s Fargo by just one nomination. American Horror Story: Coven took third with 17 nominations, followed by AMC’s Breaking Bad (16) HBO’s The Normal Heart (16), NBC’s Saturday Night Live (14), ABC’s Modern Family (10) and NBC’s The Voice (10).

In terms of networks, HBO again took first place with an incredible 99 nominations, creating a substantial difference between runner-up CBS with 47. NBC took third with 46. FX (45) and ABC (37) finished out the top five with Netflix taking sixth with 31 total nominations.

Many of highly nominated series include cast members who have yet to experience the Emmy Awards. Among the first-timers include Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex), Lena Heady (Game of Thrones), Matt Bomer (Normal Heart), Gary Cole (Veep), Colin Hanks (Fargo), Allison Tolman (Fargo) Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is the New Black) and Joe Morton (Scandal), among others.

Deadline highlights the complete list of nominees.The 66th Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, August 25 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, which will air on NBC with Late Night’s Seth Meyers as host.
