2024 Golden Globes Nominations Announced; ‘Succession’ and ‘The Bear’ Lead in TV Categories

This past Monday morning, the nominations for the 2024 Golden Globes were released. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO’s Succession leads in nomination totals with nine awards up for grabs including Best TV Series – Drama.

Succession was not the only show sweeping the nomination list. The drama series was followed by Only Murders In The Building and The Bear, which both scored five nominations each. In regards to the studios and their nominations, HBO led the way with 17 total nominations followed by a count of 15 nominations for Netflix.

Along with the usual categories, it was announced that there are now new categories for both film and TV which honor box office sounds and the art of stand-up comedy. The first of them was the award for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, in an announcement from The Globes, the category was explained to consist of films that had achieved  “a box office receipt total/gross of $150 million, of which $100 million must come from the U.S. domestic box office, and/or obtain commensurate digital streaming viewership recognized by trusted industry sources.”

The other new category that will honor stand-up comedy is the award for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. In the announcement of the new category, it was told that the criteria state that the comics should have given “traditional stand-up comedy performances of at least 30 minutes, other than roles in television series, limited series, anthology series or motion pictures made for television on a recognized media platform (individual social media accounts do not qualify).” via The Hollywood Reporter

This past month, the Globes reached a broadcasting deal with CBS after the relationship between the awards show and NBC ended.  The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards is set to air on Sunday, January 7, 2024 8 pm EST on CBS. It will also be streaming on Paramount+. The host of the awards show is yet to be announced. Check out the full list of TV nominees below!
