Paramount’s popular series 1923 has seen a record high audience score this month since its premiere of season two. As a prequel of the platform’s previous series Yellowstone, which stated in past articles on mxdwn, reached a staggering 13.1M total viewers, and 1883 which stood to be the most watched original series on the service to date, drawing 4.9M viewers to the Paramount Network. Fans took excitedly to the continuation of the show since its debut in December of 2022. According to Deadline, the series finale amassed a much higher audience score than did season one, landing the score at a little over 14M views.
Executive producer and TV’s “golden man” Taylor Sheridan has brought excitement back into the Western world with his work on several productions such as The Madison, which plans to premiere in 2026, and Paramount’s Landman, which has also soared in popularity since its release in 2024 . Continuing in an article by Slashfilm, Sheridan has built a magnificent empire around turn of the century dramas, leaving fans to question if 1923 will see a possible season three. In response to fan’s curiosity, Sheridan has confirmed in a 2023 interview with Deadline that 1923 won’t see a season three, as he envisioned the series telling and finishing that particular story.
“It’s really the second half of the season.” Sheridan said via Deadline. “This one is different than 1883 where I had the whole thing blocked out in my head. This one, I had no idea what I was going to do. I just went on a journey myself and I’m the one that made the call to the network, which is probably the greatest call they ever got. Hey, I need to make more episodes to finish this story. I need to do this in two blocks. An eight episode block and a second eight episode block to wrap this up. I can’t wrap it up in two episodes and do the story justice. For them, it is great because they get more content. For me, I get more runway.”
With the series advancing in popularity, reaching an exceeding 5.14M views since the premiere of season one, Deadline reports that the series has increased its viewership by 200%. Fans don’t need to worry though, as Sheridan has already started focusing on the next sequel behind 1923, which will be entitled 1944. While there is no release date yet, it is possible for a late 2026 or early 2027 release.
Current seasons of 1923 are available to stream on Paramount+ , as well as Yellowstone and 1883.
