Netflix has announced that they are going to be adding fifteen minute standup comedy specials this year (2018). The show has not been given a title as of yet, but it will feature sixteen on the rise comedians. The comedians being featured in the series are: Aisling Bea, Michelle Buteau, Tim Dillon, JR De Guzman, Sabrina Jalees, Janelle James, Sam Jay, Josh Johnson, Ian Karmel, Jak Knight, Matteo Lane, Max Silvestri, Taylor Tomlinson, Phil Wang, Emma Willmann, and Kate Willett. Each of them will have a solo set in front of a live audience. The series is expected to start being taped in February at the Atlanta’s Terminal West venue.
This helps reinforced Netflix’s investment to standup comedy. In 2017 Netflix had a show The Standups, which was a thirty minute series, but that was for six comedians. The show released a new standup each week. Netflix also already have a connection with standup comedians like: Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, Ali Wong, Ricky Gervais, Hannibal Buress, and John Mulaney. Also later this year it will include comedians Chris Rock and Ellen DeGeneres. By having this new series Netflix will also create a connection with the new comic talent.
The premiere date has not been announced as of yet, but the series will be released in 2018.
