The devastating wildfires throughout Northern California delayed the production of the second season of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The controversial teenage drama was filmed in the areas that were affected by the raging wildfires and decided to pause filming until Thursday. Filming is set to resume on Sunday being that Friday and Saturday were previously planned days off.
The popular series is filmed in Vallejo, Calif., where the fires have been severe. Entertainment Weekly reported that the wildfires have killed 21 people so far and burned over 3,500 buildings including many houses.
While the production is on a short hiatus, some of the cast and crew who lives in the surrounding areas during filming have flown home as a courtesy. Some of them tweeted about the natural disaster on Tuesday including one of the main cast members Dylan Minnette who plays Clay Jensen.
Since Sunday, there have been more than 20 wildfires, which is said to have been fueled by Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions. Along with the 21 dead, hundreds of people have been reported missing. Tens of thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate Sonoma County and the surrounding areas while the fires have spread well over 100,000 acres.
The second season of 13 Reasons Why is expected to pick up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker’s suicide with the characters trying to move on towards healing according to Deadline. This adaptation of Jay Asher’s book is written by Brian Yorkey with popular actress and singer Selena Gomez as executive producer.
Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why is expected to premiere next year.
