Episode six continues with a flashback from 1995. As Nishiki makes his way to Dojima’s office, he holds a gun up to him and shoots. Kazuma bursts through the room and barricades the door so a group of yakuza members can’t enter. Nishiki blames Kazuma, and the two fight over the gun. The yakuza members break through the door and see Kazuma Kiryu with the gun, ultimately blaming him.
In 2005, Kazuma and Yumi look to meet with Nishiki to get Haruka and trade for the millions of stolen yen. As Yakuza leaders seek Nishiki to disband his gang, they are soon attacked by The Demon, resulting in more deaths.
The Florist of Sai keeps Nishiki updated on Kazuma’s location. Kazuma, Yumi, and Aiko arrive at the trade-off destination. Yumi retrieves Haruka and Kazuma makes his way into Nishiki’s tower. He quickly finds himself surrounded by dead bodies and is met with The Demon.
They fight hand-to-hand, though The Demon quickly brings a blade. The other Yakuza gangs surround the tower as Detective Date watches closely, hoping that the Yakuza gangs will get rid of each other.
As The Demon’s mask falls off, it’s revealed that this masked character is Nishiki. As the two continue to fight, the two clans outside go to war. Nishiki is notified that his clan has received the money and then quickly kills the messenger, showing his loss of humanity. As he uses the last of his ammunition on that gang member, Kazuma lunges at Nishiki only to be stabbed by him.
As the Dojima clan members take the money, Aiko steals their gun, resulting in a shoot-off. Aiko shields Yumi from the gunfire, leaving her with fatal wounds. Yumi puts Aiko and Haruka in the van with the money and heads to return it to the yakuza.
As they drive off, Nishiki catches up to them and aims his gun at the van. Kazuma pushes him over, preventing Nishiki from firing. The two continue to fight, though Kazuma spares him. Nishiki refuses, resulting in him getting fatally stabbed. Kazuma tries to stop him from bleeding out, but Nishiki quickly becomes unresponsive.
Yumi parks the van and carries the bags of money to the gang leader Goro. He praises Yumi, and the fight between the two gangs disperses.
Kazuma attempts to carry Nishiki, to safety. Aiko is put into an ambulance as Detective Date investigates the scene. Kazuma also brings Nishiki’s body to an ambulance and then collapses. Yumi helps him get up, and they are met by their foster father, Shintaro Kazuma, inviting them home.
As they follow Shintaro, the cut on his back reveals a dragon tattoo. Kazuma stares at Shintaro, filled with emotion, as he realizes his foster father had been The Dragon rogue yakuza member that he had always idolized as a kid.
This final episode revealed two major truths: Kazuma took the fall for Nishiki murdering Dojima, and Nishiki was The Demon all along. Aiko somewhat redeemed herself by saving Yumi and wanting to return the money. In the end, Goro got his money, and the war between gangs halted. Haruka was safe, though Aiko and Nishiki’s condition remained unclear. As everything worked out in the end, Kazuma realized his idol was always there for him.
The conclusion to this season was quick and direct, though it was still lackluster. The series took itself too seriously and lacked opportunities for viewers to bond with the characters. Perhaps the series was too rushed, but overall, there wasn’t enough depth to keep the audience’s attention. Also, the Yakuza game series is known for its action sequences, and the series underdelivered. It’s hard to imagine what this series could have offered, knowing that the video game series is so beloved. Hopefully, this series can prove to be an example of what adaptations can lack when they are rushed.
