Fear The Walking Dead star Garret Dillahunt (Raising Hope, Sprung) has been cast in a significant recurring role in Lanterns, HBO’s highly anticipated drama series inspired by the Green Lantern comics, as mentioned by Deadline. Dillahunt joins a star-studded ensemble that includes series leads Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Bloodlines) and Aaron Pierre (Old, Brother), along with regular cast member Kelly Macdonald(Boardwalk Empire, Brave).
Lanterns centers around John Stewart played by Pierre, a newly recruited Green Lantern, and Hal Jordan, portrayed by Chandler, a seasoned intergalactic enforcer. The two are tasked with investigating a murder that takes them deep into the heart of a grim, Earth-based mystery set in rural America. According to Deadline, the storyline promises a blend of crime drama and cosmic action as these “space cops” find themselves unraveling secrets that blur the lines between humanity and the universe.
Dillahunt is set to portray William Macon, a modern-day cowboy with a self-righteous, conspiracy-driven mindset. Despite his outward charm and seemingly calm demeanor, Macon is driven by an intense ambition masked behind his carefully constructed facade. Macdonald will play Sheriff Kerry, a local law enforcement figure who may hold key insights into the unfolding case.
HBO is producing the eight-episode series in collaboration with Warner Bros, as mentioned by Deadline. Television and DC Studios. Chris Mundy, who serves as showrunner, is also co-writing and executive producing alongside Lindelöf and King. James Hawes, known for his work on Black Mirror, directed the first two episodes and served as an executive producer.
Beyond Lanterns, Dillahunt’s diverse acting portfolio continues to grow. He is currently starring in Shit. Meet. Fan., a new play by Robert O’Hara premiering off-Broadway at the MCC Theater. Additionally, Dillahunt has a recurring role in ABC’s breakout crime drama High Potential and can be seen in Peacock’s upcoming comedy horror-thriller Hysteria!
