The popular sci-fi sitcom, Rick and Morty ,that has run for seven seasons is getting an anime transformation while the 8th season of the sitcom is currently in production and set to release in 2025. According to Comicbook, adult swim dropped a fresh sneak peek clip for Rick and Morty: The Anime, further amping up excitement for the intergalactic series. The premise of the animated series is sure to be similar to the original were the Rick is fighting intergalatic threats and going on bizarre adventures.
The sneak peek features Rick outrunning for alternatives version of himself, while Summer is talking with him, and Morty is goofy around offscreen. This follows the initial teaser trailer revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last year.
Unlike the original sitcom the anime adaptation will be dubbed in Japanese with English subtitles. According to Comicbook, the anime will be written and directed by Takashi Sano (Tower of God), who handled the anime shorts “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider” and “Summer Meets God” for the Telecom Anime Festival, and it will consists of ten episodes.A production team consisting of Maki Nagano (Halo Legends), Max Nishi (Beserk: Golden Age Arc III), and Takenari Maeda will produce it. Additionally, Yu Kiyozono (Lupin III) will serve as animation producer, Yuuki Kakizoe as assistant producer, Jason DeMarco (The Lord of the Rings), Joseph Chou (Knights of the Zodiac), Arisa Matsuzawa (Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway), and Makiko Kojima (Neo Genesis Evangelion).
The sneak peek confirms that the series is coming, even though an official release date hasn’t been announced. While the iconic characters are recognizable, they have been given a makeover with a distinct anime aesthetic. According to Comicbook, the Japanese voice cast of the short has yet to be fully confirmed to return, for the anime series. Other well-known sitcom characters like Beth, Jerry, and Birdperson might be animated in the distinctive anime style in the adaptation.
