HBO has just greenlit a new comedy series executive-produced and written by Rachel Sennott (Bottoms). According to Deadline, the series, which is currently untitled, received a pilot order from the network. The series will feature a group of close-knit friends who are trying to deal with the changes brought on in their friendship since their last meeting, such as new relationships and ambitions.
Aida Rodgers (True Detective) and Emma Barrie (Splitting Up Together), best known for their work on the dramedy series Barry, also on HBO, will join Sennott as executive producers. Deadline notes that the trio is all pining to make it big in comedy, much like Issa Rae (Insecure) and Lena Dunham (Sharp Stick), who are two up-and-coming female comedy creators who found mega-success with their HBO series, Insecure and Girls, which centers around women in their twenties trying to figure out relationships and life.
Sennott, who graduated from Tisch School of the Arts in 2017, started her career in Hollywood with a bang when she starred in a student-produced film entitled Shiva Baby. The film was then adapted into a feature picture, with Sennott executive producing and reprising her role. This led Sennott to obtain leading roles in Bottoms, a teen comedy, and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, a horror comedy movie, which she also executive produced and co-wrote.
As per Deadline, HBO has been eyeing Sennott since her career launched. Her first television appearance was during an episode of HBO’s dramedy series High Maintenance. Sennott has also been a recurring character in another HBO series, The Idol.
Sennott was also a regular character on the ABC comedy series Call Your Mother. Other work credits include her partnering up with close friend and Emmy award-winning actress Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) in Ayo and Rachel Are Single and Speak Up for Comedy Central.
Some upcoming works for Sennott include co-starring alongside Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!) in the thriller Holland, Michigan, and portraying Rosie Shuster (Love, Gilda) in SNL 1975.
Yorn Levine Barnes, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and WME represent Sennott. CAA represents Rodgers, and Hansen Jacobsen, UTA and Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment represent Barrie.
