Girls5eva, the once-Paramount musical comedy series, is making a comeback! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix picked up the series and dropped the trailer for its upcoming third season today. The trailer depicts all the ladies in the band Gloria, Wickie, Dawn and Summer as they appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and reveal their comeback album, Returnity.
The series stars Paula Pell (Saturday Night Live, Inside Out) as Gloria, Sara Bareilles (Little Voice, She’s Out of My League) as Dawn, Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, Pistol Whipped) as Wickie and Busy Philipps (Made of Honor, White Chicks) as Summer. Together, and with nearly little support, the women come together in the trailer to overcome the obstacles of going on tour for their album and even obtain a gig on the highly sought-after late-night show.
The series was first home to Peacock for its first two seasons until being canceled by the streamer in 2022, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Now home to Netflix, Girls5eva seasons one and two will be available to stream on the same day the third season is set to premiere on the network on March 14.
Some quotes from the trailer via The Hollywood Reporter read: “This is going to be the biggest comeback in pop music history,” said a voiceover in the trailer.
Another quote by Dawn states, “We are four women with greatness in us. We are proof that it is never too late to follow your dreams.”
The trailer then concludes with Wickie humorously saying, “I haven’t gotten that level of applause since I agreed to leave an airplane.”
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the official logline for Girls5eva reads, “With no plan, tour manager, or venues secured, the ladies pile into a van and hit the great unknown, doing their damnedest to promote their album and get back on top. In the process, Girls5eva will grapple with life on the road, see their relationships tested, play a billionaire’s birthday party, sow their oats, confront parents they believe held them back, cross paths with the biggest pop star on the planet and question if they really want ‘the big time’ again.”
Universal Television produces Girls5eva. The six-episode third season is set to drop on March 14 on Netflix.
