Netflix’s coming of age comedy Never Have I Ever is set to wrap up the series with its fourth season. The season is set to air its final ten episodes on June 8.
A teaser for the remaining 10 episodes, featuring the series’ signature John McEnroe, famous American tennis player, voiceover, takes viewers back through the “ups and downs” of the previous three seasons for “Ivy League-chasing horndog” Devi Vishwakumar ,played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and her friends. And then the preview offers a series of rapid-fire glimpses of season four, including the introduction of Michael Cimino’s (Love, Victor) skater character Ethan, who’s shown taking off his shirt and coming close to kissing Devi.
Created by comedian/actress Mindy Kaling (The Office,The Sex Lives of College Girls), the show follows an Indian-American teen who just wants to spruce up her high school social status after a traumatic year— but friends, family and feelings won’t make it easy on her.
A major plot line of the show is the on-going love triangle among Devi, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet, Love, Hard), and Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison, Away and Back). The arrival of Ethan is sure to add more tension. Lang Fisher (Honesty), the series’s showrunner, tells The Hollywood Reporter that she sees the love triangle remaining prevalent through the rest of the show. Regarding the cliffhanger ending from season three with Ben, she says that, “Whatever happens post — [Devi] showing up there will also be introducing complications into season four.”
The teaser trailer also shows Devi and friends sharing special moments as they hit their senior year milestones such as prom and graduation. The preview ends with Devi at a bar toasting someone and saying, “I frickin’ love my future life.” Fisher previously told The Hollywood Reporter that she thinks this final season is “about growing up and moving on. For these characters, it’s their senior year. Who do they want to be in the world? And I think it’s like them being slightly more grown-up versions of themselves and having this kind of big, epic senior year. Hopefully, we send people off into their future lives in a way that feels satisfying to our fans.”
