Taiwanese actor Kai Ko, star of the new Netflix Chinese-language series Agent From Above, was struck in the face by a drone while on set on December 27, according to Deadline. The actor suffered “serious facial disfigurement,” and will require “20 to 30 stitches,” Ko’s agent tells Taiwan’s United Daily News. Ko’s agent also says that he is recuperating and actively treating his injury,” and is working hard to return to work “as soon as possible,” via Deadline.
A spokesperson for Taiwan’s Good Films Production, the production team for the series, tells Deadline, “There was no drone explosion or blades shattering. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, the drone accidentally hit the cheekbone area of Ko’s face and caused injuries.” The spokesperson added that they are investigating to identify how the accident happened, according to Deadline.
Although Ko is the lead actor of the series, production has resumed on scenes that do not feature him, as it is unclear how long Ko will be unable to work, via Deadline. Alongside Ko, the cast includes Buffy Chen (The Silent Forest, Little Big Women), Johnny Yang (The Devil Punisher, Hotel Artemis), Wang Po-Chieh (Life of Pi, Bodyguard and Assassins), and singer Hsueh Shih-ling, former member of Taiwanese hip hop group “Da Mouth.”
Set in a world against a universe of “gods, monsters, humans, and ghosts,” Agent From Above follows the story of a former drug addict, played by Ko, as he is recruited to do the bidding of Chinese god San Tai Zi for redemption of his sins, according to Deadline. Ko is a well-known star in his region, and is known for other works including You Are the Apple of My Eye, Bad Education, The Road to Mandalay, and Till We Meet Again.
