Deadline reports Regina Ting Chen (Queen of the South, Watchmen), Amybeth McNulty (Anne with an E, Maternal), Myles Truitt (Queen Sugar, Black Lightning), and Grace Van Dien (Lady Driver, Charlie Says) have been added to the series set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. The new characters were announced during Netflix’s genre-centeric, Geeked Week. Check out a video update from creators Matt and Ross Duffer (Wayward Pines, We All Fall Down) below.

In the video, the Duffers give an update of season four’s progress, which had been long-delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, in the video, they are joined by McNulty. According to Deadline, McNulty will play Vickie, a fast-talking band nerd who plays a major role in the upcoming season. She’ll also be a potential love interest to an already established character. Read the full Twitter thread describing each character at the end of the article.
Truitt is set to play Patrick, via Deadline. A Hawkins basketball star, his charmed life is turned upside down after tragedy strikes. Chen will portray beloved Hawkins High guidance counselor, Ms. Kelly. Kelly gains the students’ trust by advocating on their behalf. Finally, we have Van Dien who portrays teen queen, Chrissy. The most popular girl in school, the Hawkins High head cheerleader is keeping a dark secret hidden from the public.
According to Deadline, details of the fourth season’s plot are still under wraps. What we do know has only been revealed in small teasers. The first referenced the return of David Harbour’s (Black Widow, Extraction) Hopper, who viewers assumed had perished after season three’s battle with the Demagorgon. The second teaser previewed Matthew Modine (Weeds, And the Band Played On) returning as the nefarious Dr. Martin Brenner, the mad scientist whose experimental research bestowed powers on children, including Millie Bobby Brown’s (Godzilla, Enola Holmes) Eleven.
The Duffer Brothers write, direct, and serve as co-showrunners of the series, via Deadline. The two executive produce under Monkey Massacre Productions along with director Shawn Levy (Big Fat Liar, Arrival) and Dan Cohen (Kin, The Violent Heart) of 21 Laps Entertainment. Iain Paterson (The Glow, Winds of Terror) also executive produces.
