As Mj Rodriguez’s (Pose) Blanca prepares to take her final bow in the ballroom, the actress has already landed her next gig. Rodriguez, according to TVLine, is set to star opposite Maya Rudolph (The Good Place) in an upcoming, untitled comedy series from Apple TV+.
Via TVLine, the official description of the untitled comedy will follow Rudolph as Molly after her husband “leaves her with nothing but 87 billion dollars.” Rodriguez will play Sofia, who is the dedicated executive director of Molly’s non-profit company.
The series, which was announced in March along with Rudolph’s casting, was co-created by Alan Yang (producer, Master of None) and Matt Hubbard (producer, Parks and Recreation). Both Yang and Hubbard are attached as writers and executive producers, via TVLine. Rudolph is additionally set to executive produce the series. The untitled comedy with reunite Yang, Hubbard, and Rudolph, as the trio had worked together previously on Forever.
Rodriguez is best known for her role as Blanca on FX’s Pose. Since 2018, she has played the house mother who takes care of all her children and friends all while battling a positive HIV diagnosis. According to TVLine, Rodriguez gained a Critic’s Choice Award nomination for her work on Pose. The series, which has gained popular and critical praise for its representation of the ballroom scene in the 1980s and 90s, has won two GLAAD Awards, a Peabody, and an Emmy for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Billy Porter (Like a Boss), who plays Blanca’s friend and confidant, Pray Tell. The final season of Pose began on Sunday, May 3, with new episodes airing weekly every Sunday night until the finale, which is set to air on June 6. In addition to Pose, Rodriguez has starred as Sister Boy in Luke Cage, as Ebony in Saturday Church, and as Lonna in Nurse Jackie.
