Anthony Bridgerton has found his bride, and now, the casting directors of Bridgerton have found the right actress to play her. Newcomer Charithra Chandran has been cast as Edwina in the second season of Netflix’s hit series, Bridgerton, via TVLine.
Season two of Bridgerton is set to follow the second book in the Bridgerton novels, The Viscount Who Loved Me, written by Julia Quinn (author, The Duke and I). In the novel, Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathon Bailey, Broadchurch), the eldest Bridgerton child, decides to wed Edwina and renounce his womanizing past, via TVLine. However, Edwina’s older sister, Kate Sharma (played by Simone Ashley, Sex Education), does everything to keep her sister from marrying Anthony. While she insists Anthony isn’t the right man to become her sister’s husband, she can’t help herself when she begins to fall in love with the reformed rake.

In addition to casting Chandran as Edwina, it has been announced that Rupert Young (Merlin) will play Jack, a supporting character from a family of similar standing to the Bridgertons. According to TVLine, Young’s role will be as a co-star, and his character Jack is a character completely original to the Netflix drama rather than being based on an existing character from the books.
Bridgerton was renewed only a few weeks following the first season’s premiere on Netflix on Christmas Day last year, according to TVLine. The show is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes (executive producer, How To Get Away With Murder) through her production and media company, Shondaland. Chris Van Husen, who serves as Bridgerton‘s showrunner, stated that Edwina, Kate, and Jack are only three of “a bunch of new characters” viewers will meet in season two of the series (TVLine).
Production on season two of Bridgerton is set to begin later this spring. However, no release date for the highly anticipated second season has been announced.
