It’s been almost nine months since the Amazon dramadie Good Omens was released on Prime. Now, the BBC has finally confirmed that it will be broadcasting British show in January 2020.
According to a report from Deadline, the original plan from the BBC was to broadcast the show this year just following the show’s Amazon premiere. However, the BBC decided to push back the broadcast date, though it gave no indication as to why. The show is now set to premiere on the BBC on January 15th, though it will still be available online with an Amazon Prime subscription.
Good Omens is a comedy/drama fantasy series based on the 1990 book of the same name co-written by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, and stars many acclaimed television actors including David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm, Frances McDormand, Nick Offerman, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson, Adria Arjona, Michael McKean, Anna Maxwell Martin, Mireille Enos. The show follows the story of an uptight and anxious angel (Sheen) and a carefree and rebellious demon (Tennant) as they work together to try to stop the End of Times from happening. The Final Judgement Day is fast approaching, the climate is changing, an old witch’s ancient prophecies are coming true, and no one can figure out where they left the Antichrist.
In an interview with The Guardian just before the Amazon premiere of the show, author Neil Gaiman talked about his feelings adapting his book after so many years. Gaiman’s co-writer Pratchett passed away in 2015, and Gaiman had promised him that he would adequately adapt their work on Good Omens; “suddenly it was a last request,” Gaiman said.
“The weirdest thing is how a novel that was written literally 30 years ago feels really a lot more apt now than it did then,” Gaiman continued. “I mean, if I could trade, I would have a much duller world in which we had to try and convince people that an apocalypse was likely, instead of having the world that we’re in, where the nuclear clock is ticking closer and closer, and where I’m going: ‘Actually, as far as I can tell everybody in charge is f–ing nuts.’”
Good Omens is available on Amazon Prime now. You can watch the trailer for the series below.
