David Lynch and Mark Frost are holding their cards close to their chest when it comes to the upcoming Twin Peaks reboot.
Showtime just recently released a new teaser for the fast approaching third season of the cult series. The teaser is equally as odd as the last couple, featuring David Lynch’s famously hearing impaired Gordon Cole eating a donut as Angelo Badalamenti’s iconic Twin Peaks score plays in the background. One teaser simply featured the sign for Twin Peaks while another featured interviews with the cast as they discussed their roles in the series.
There is still no firm premiere date for the third season of Twin Peaks, though Showtime has confirmed it will air sometime this year after being pushed out of 2016. In order to build some added hype for a series that has been steadily gaining a cult audience for years, Showtime recently added the first two seasons of Twin Peaks to Showtime on Demand.
Plenty of the original cast of the series are returning with Lynch including Kyle MacLachlan, Madchen Amick, Sherilyn Fenn, Dana Ashbrook, Sheryl Lee, Everett McGill, Kimmy Robertson, Russ Tamblyn, Ray Wise, Grace Zabriskie, David Duchovny, Migeul Ferrer, Harry Goaz, Michael Horse, David Patrick Kelly, Harry Dean Stanton, Richard Beymer, Robert Forster and the late Catherine Coulson.
Though the number of cast members returning to the series over 15 years later is quite impressive, the prospect of what Lynch and Frost have in store for the insane talent pool of newcomers is almost more exciting. The ridiculously long list of remarkable people ranges from comedians like the wonderfully bizarre Brett Gelman and Wild Horses’ and Dream Corp LLC‘s Stephanie Allynne to musicians like film composer/Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.
Detective Dale Cooper is set to return to Twin Peaks on Showtime sometime (hopefully soon) this year.
