It appears Hulu’s very own slice of the Marvel universe may be gearing up.
According to ComicBookMovie and ScreenRant, Tamara Becher may have started writing on the series. On Monday Becher, who wrote on Netflix and Marvel’s Iron Fist and worked on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Covert Affairs, tweeted out a picture along with the message “New gig, day one”. The tweet has since been deleted.
Back in August Hulu ordered a pilot and additional episode scripts based on Marvel’s Runaways series, with an aim for a full season order. Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are set as showrunners for the series, and are executive producing with Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and Lis Rowinski.
The Runaways, created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, follows six teenagers who strike out on their own after learning that their parents are involved in a supervillain crime syndicate called The Pride.
Hulu’s foray into comic book-based series is not a new one. Along with The Runaways, which was originally set to be a Marvel Phase One movie, there are a slew of comic-based TV projects including Legion (FX), Jessica Jones (Netflix), Luke Cage (Netflix), Daredevil (Netflix), Iron Fist (Netflix), Outcast (Cinemax), The Walking Dead (AMC), The CW’s multiple DC series, and so on. There are also plenty in development like CW’s Riverdale, Freeform’s Cloak and Dagger, Hulu’s Postal, Cinemax’s Scarlet, AMC’s Briggs Land, NBC’s Hawaiian Dick, and plenty more in various stages of being made.
