Actress Whoopi Goldberg will play the lead role as well as executive produce Lifetime’s new film, “A Day Late and a Dollar Short”, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
The TV movie is an adaptation of the Terry McMillan novel and will premiere in 2014. Several other novels of McMillan’s have been adapted to film versions, including “Waiting to Exhale” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back”, in which coincidentally enough Goldberg starred.
The lead role Goldberg will play is that of Viola Price, who [at the start of the film] finds out she could die very soon. Her dying promise to her family is to help each of her four children with hardships they face, including teen pregnancy, drug addiction and jail time, as stated by Entertainment Weekly.
Goldberg, now a co-host of talk show the View, has won an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Emmy, Grammy and a Tony award, as noted by Entertainment Weekly. She has also been a producer of many projects, including the famous Hollywood Squares which she also starred in.
Production for “A Day Late and a Dollar Short” will begin this summer.
