It seems that Kratos from God of War is about to be a big deal in the upcoming live-action adaptation series on Prime Video. According to Screenrant, the exact plot details of the series haven’t been fully released, but it will follow the 2018 video game. In the story, Kratos and his son, Atreus—played by Callum Vinson (The Night Agent, Crystal Lake)—traverse the nine realms to scatter the ashes of their late wife and mother while battling creatures and gods along the way.
According to Screenrant, several episode scenes will have to be reshot because the role of Kratos was originally supposed to go to Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, The Odyssey), who previously provided the voice for Thor. However, after the actor sustained an injury, production was temporarily paused, and the role was recast.

Reported by Screenrant, Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Army of the Dead) will now be portraying the iconic character. He shared a post on his Instagram page showcasing the intense training that has bulked him up by 20 pounds to match the giant physique of Kratos. It’s clear that Bautista is pulling out all the stops to tackle his role as the Ghost of Sparta. The series will have the father-son duo interact with others, which will include Mimir, played by Alastair Duncan (Hogwarts Legacy, NCIS), Sonya Walger (Lost, Anon) as Freya, and Mandy Patinkin (Homeland, Criminal Minds) as Odin.
At the moment, there is no confirmed release date for the live-action God of War, but it has already received a two-season order from Prime Video, which will cover both 2018’s God of War and 2022’s God of War Ragnarök. The first season is scheduled to consist of 10 episodes, with the runtime for each episode still unknown. If the series makes a strong start, it could join Prime Video’s other hit video game adaptations, like Fallout.
