Production is officially underway on AMC’s upcoming NASCAR drama Thunder Road, with filming taking place throughout Georgia ahead of its planned 2027 premiere on AMC and AMC+. According to an AMC press release, Thunder Road, created by John Fusco (Young Guns, The Highwaymen) and led by showrunner Taylor Elmore (Justified, Tulsa King), follows the fictional Whitlock family and its multigenerational connection to stock car racing.
AMC describes the story as one built around family relationships, rivalries, and the Southern hill country roots that shaped the family’s racing legacy. Dennis Quaid (The Parent Trap, The Substance) leads the series as Duane Whitlock. Chase Stokes (Outer Banks, Uglies) plays Ronnie Whitlock, while Maggie Grace (Lost, Taken) stars as Laney Whitlock. Matt Barre (Hatfields & McCoys, Blood & Treasure) plays Calvin Whitlock, with West Duchovny (Saint X, Painkiller) appearing as Cassie Whitlock.
The press release also notes that the main cast includes Shane McRae (Silo, Sneaky Pete) as Scooter Jakes and Jake Manley (The Order, My Life With The Walter Boys) as Zak Farley. AMC also announced several recurring and guest stars.
Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians Of The Galaxy), James Wolk (Mad Men, The Crazy Ones), Mackenzie Porter (Travelers, 9-1-1: Nashville), Aspen Kennedy (The Forge, A Day to Die), Josh Macqueen (Motorheads, Surviving Summer), Sandra Ellis Lafferty (The Hunger Games, Walk the Line) and Haley Dillon (Blue Ridge: The Series, A Nashville Country Christmas) are among those joining the series. Musician Devon Allman will also appear.
Behind the scenes, Fusco serves as creator and executive producer, with Elmore serving as showrunner and executive producer. Cliff Roberts (Untamed) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, American Primeval) also executive produce. NASCAR Studios’ Tim Clark and John Dahl (The Last Dance) serve as executive producers.
AMC Studios is producing Thunder Road, with AMC Global Media holding worldwide rights to the series. With cameras now rolling in Georgia, the racing drama is nearing its 2027 debut on AMC and AMC+.
