The Bear follows Carmy, a promising young chef who forgoes his rising star in the culinary Industry in order to take over his family restaurant after his brother’s suicide. He attempts to revitalize the struggling business but is often hampered by his brother’s missteps as an owner. He frequently clashes with his non-blood-related “cousin” Richie, who holds some resentment that the restaurant was left to Carmy instead of him. Syd is another classically trained chef who comes to work under Carmy, seeing the potential in what he is trying to do. As the restaurant attempts to reinvent itself, other members of the staff undergo transformations as well. Carmy often struggles with past trauma from his time in the restaurant industry as well as the weight of his own expectations.
