Episode 1 begins with Spider Noir (Ben Reilly) swinging through New York talking about his universe, and his life, and fighting bad guys. He also mentions that 5 years ago, after his fiancé Ruby died, he put away the suit and became an ordinary man.
Then we see Ben following a guy named Addison out of a diner, when a man driving by hits him with his car door, aiding Addison. Ben is able to shrug it off and continues to follow the perpetrators. When Ben catches up with the two, the man starts shooting Addison as he suddenly bursts into flames, and then explodes.
While the guy, named Patrick Donegal is knocked out, Ben searches through his wallet, and learns he is also a private investigator. When he wakes up, they both realize they were hired by a guy named Winston to track this guy down. While talking with Janet in the office, a man named Carmedy comes in and says his wife is going to meet someone at 8, and he wants him to spy on her. Ben accepts the case.

He is then told by Robbie of a mobster burning down a guy named Silvermane’s mansion. After a little chastising for taking a cheating spouse case again, Robbie talks about how since the Spider disappeared, crime is out of control, and Silvermane has the city in his hands. Ben then meets up with Donegal to talk about investigating who hired them and why.
After Ben tells Winston to get 200 dollars from his boss, Patrick follows him to the location, where we learn that he works for Silvermane. After learning the “cheating wife” he was supposedly investigating was a lounge singer named Cat Hardy, he goes to the club to speak with her. He asks her about her meeting at the Redcliffe, and talks with her about discussing the price of the photos tomorrow (essentially blackmailing her, as the man she was meeting was the mayor).
When he leaves, he is followed by Cats’ bodyguard Flint. After knocking him down, he gets up and suddenly becomes superpowered, but Ben eventually gains the upper hand. Flint snaps out of it, and Ben gives Cat the negatives for free. The next morning, Cat comes into the office, and asks Ben to investigate the disappearance of Flint.
This was a pretty cool beginning. What’s interesting is that this show can be viewed in black and white, or in color. This episode was viewed in black and white, but the next one will be checked out in color, just to see what they are both like. The show has some similarities to Daredevil: Born Again. In Daredevil, Foggy dies, and Matt temporarily retires Daredevil, while in this one, Ben’s fiancé dies, and he temporarily retires the Spider. Not a complaint, just saying it’s similar. Overall, it was still pretty good.
