Deadline has reported that Jodie Comer (The Last Duel, The Bikeriders) will headline the limited series The Chain from acclaimed writer Damon Lindelof (The Hunt, Star Trek: Into Darkness). Lindelof has created series such as Lost, Watchmen, and The Leftovers. Three series that many consider to be modern classics. The series is produced by Media Res. Lindelof has won three Emmys out of 12 nominations. The wins came from his work on Watchmen and Lost, though many consider The Leftovers his best. Lindelof has also worked in feature films, writing movies such as World War Z and Prometheus.
The series will be adapted from Adrian McKinty’s (The Cold Cold Ground, The Island: The Instant) best-selling novel of the same name. Comer will play a mother who must grapple with the worst situation imaginable, her daughter goes missing. The series will expand on the source material rather than directly adapt it, as Lindelof did with Watchmen. He wrote the pilot script with Carly Wray (Mad Men, The Leftovers) . The writing duo shares story credits with Brennah Gibson.
Media Res will produce the series with HBO. Executive producers include Gibson, Michael Ellenberg (The Miniature Wife, The Morning Show) , Lindsey Springer (The Morning Show, I’m A Virgo), Shane Salerno (Avatar: The Way Of Water, American Masters), and Joseph Iberti (Boardwalk Empire, The Time Traveler’s Wife). McInty serves as co—executive producer on the series. Lindeloff is currently under an overall deal with HBO, the studio that produced Watchmen and The Leftovers.
Comer played Villanelle in the series Killing Eve. For her role as the morally inept assassin, she received both an Emmy and a BAFTA TV Award. On the big screen, she recently starred in Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later. Her upcoming projects include The Death of Robin Hood, The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde, and Stuffed.
