Production of Prime Video’s highly anticipated and upcoming Tomb Raider series has hit a setback with with the team having to hit the pause button regarding its lead actor. Reported by Screenrant, the news has surprised fans worldwide, who have already seen the first-look image of Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones, X-Men: Apocalypse) sporting the iconic Croft attire, which consists of red shades, teal tank top and brown shorts.
Reported by Screenrant, Prime Video goes on to speak with Entertainment Weekly giving good news surrounding Turner’s condition.”Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury. As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”
Stated by Screenrant, the team behind the series will have Phoebe Waller-Bridge (IF, Fleabag) and Chad Hodge (The Darkest Minds, Wayward Pines) as co-showrunners and directing the scene in the series. The additional cast member that will join Turner will include Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Ghostbusters) and Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus, The OA). Fans will also see Turner reunited with Kit Harrington (How to Train Your Dragon 2, The Eternals), but this time they won’t being playing siblings, but old friends to lovers.
Based on Screenrant, Sophie will be among list of famous celebrities that have played they role of the iconic treasure hunter which includes Angelina Jolie (Maleficent, Gia), Alicia Vikander (The Green Knight, Beckett) and Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Cinderella).
Despite this unexpected drawback, it will not last forever as the halt is rumor to last two weeks, in order for Turner to recover. While details surrounding the plot of the approaching Tomb Raider show remains underwraps, it has been speculated to be accurate to the source material and if done well could enter the hall of other related game based shows such as Fallout in Prime Video’ vast collection.
