ComicBook notes that because the series is set decades before the events of The Boys, Ackles explained that audiences will encounter an earlier version of the character who has not yet developed the hardened persona familiar to fans. As Ackles described it, the show will “peel a lot of that away,” presenting a more vulnerable and formative stage in Soldier Boy’s life.
According to ComicBook, the spinoff will serve as a prequel to the flagship series, set in the 1950s and exploring Vought International’s early history. Ackles will reprise his role as Soldier Boy alongside Aya Cash (The Boys, You’re the Worst), who is expected to return as Stormfront.
Ackles’ comments also hint at how Vought Rising may deepen the broader narrative surrounding The Boys universe. By revisiting Vought’s early days, the series is poised to explore how the company evolved into the powerful corporation that dominates the world depicted in the flagship show.
mxdwn has previously followed developments across The Boys franchise as it approaches a major turning point. Earlier reporting examined the release of the show’s upcoming final-season trailer, highlighting how the series is building toward an explosive conclusion as characters like Homelander and Butcher, played by Antony Starr (G20, Banshee) and Karl Urban (Thor:Ragnarok, Star Trek), move toward an inevitable final confrontation.
In that context, projects like Vought Rising signal how the franchise may continue evolving even after the original show concludes. By focusing on Vought’s origins and its earliest superheroes, the spinoff could expand the universe while revisiting the darker foundations that shaped The Boys’ world.
While a release date for Vought Rising has not yet been announced, Ackles’ recent comments provide the clearest indication yet that the series is moving forward and will offer a new perspective on one of the franchise’s most complex characters.
