According to FX Networks press release, FX has locked in a February premiere date for American Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, the first chapter in Ryan Murphy’s new American Love Story anthology. The limited series will debut Thursday, February 12, launching with a three-episode simulcast across FX and Hulu at 9 p.m. ET, before rolling out weekly episodes. Internationally, the series will stream on Disney+.
As stated by FX Networks press release, the nine-episode drama revisits one of the most photographed and scrutinized romances of the 20th century, tracing the intense connection between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, whose relationship unfolded under relentless public attention. Inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the series explores how a deeply private love story became a national obsession and how fame ultimately tested it.
Per FX Networks press release, Paul Anthony Kelly (Teenage Bounty Hunters, The Wilds) stars as Kennedy Jr., often described as American royalty, while Sarah Pidgeon (The Wilds, Tiny Beautiful Things) plays Bessette, a fiercely independent fashion executive who rose through the ranks at Calvin Klein. Their whirlwind romance, marriage, and the suffocating glare of the media form the emotional backbone of the series.
According FX Networks press release, the supporting cast brings in a mix of familiar faces portraying key figures from the couple’s inner circle and family. Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot, American Horror Story) appears as Caroline Kennedy, while Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive, The Impossible) takes on the role of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Alessandro Nivola (The Many Saints of Newark, American Hustle) plays fashion icon Calvin Klein, alongside Leila George (Animal Kingdom, Mortal Engines) as Kelly Klein. The ensemble also includes Sydney Lemmon (Fear the Walking Dead, Succession) as Lauren Bessette, and Constance Zimmer (UnREAL, House of Cards) as Ann Marie Messina.
As reported by FX Networks press release, Connor Hines (The Wilds, Mrs. America) conceived the project, while Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee), Brad Simpson (Pose, The Assassination of Gianni Versace), and Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games, American Crime Story) are among the executive producers. The pilot is executive produced and directed by Max Winkler (American Horror Story, Feud). 20th Television is in charge of production.
As outlined by FX Networks press release, American Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette attempts to reassess a relationship that enthralled the world and the price of love in the spotlight with its blend of romance, tragedy, and cultural mythology.
