According to Deadline, the second season of Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith adds Anna Ouyang Moench (Severance, Beef) as the new showrunner moving forward. Moench will also serve as writer and executive producer for the series. She succeeds series co-creator Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo), who served as showrunner for the first season of the series.

As per Deadline, Donald Glover (Community, Spider-Man: Homecoming), who headlined the first season, will still be very much involved in the series alongside Maya Erskine (Plus One, Blue Eye Samurai). Both of them started as the title characters in the first season. Co-created and executive producer Sloane was set to come back and be the showrunner for the second season, but the season was put on hold over cast issues amid her overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios coming to an end, she moved to HBO for an overall deal. Mark Eydelshteyn (Nado snimat filmy o lyubvi, Strana Sasha) and Sophie Thatcher  (Yellowjackets, The Boogeyman) were cast as the new installment’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith in December 2024 and February 2025, respectively.

According to Deadline, now that Moench is set to be part of the second season of the series series co-producers New Regency and Amazon MGM Studios will move to set a new production start date in the coming months, taking into account the availability of talent. If the series were able to start production in spring-summer 2026,  it would help them stay within the 18-month window to keep the $22.4M tax credit from the series received on March 31, 2025, to relocate to Los Angeles from New York.

As per Deadline, Mr. & Mrs. Smith follow two strangers who land jobs with a spy agency that offers them a life of espionage, wealth and travel. The job came with a catch as they both had to form new identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Smith.
