Previously on HBO Max’s It: Welcome To Derry, Matty Clements (Miles Ekhardt) gets taken by a strange family and is killed. His three friends, Teddy Uris (Mikkal Karim Fidler), Lilly Bainbridge (Clara Stack), and Phil Malkin (Jack Molloy Legault), come together to find out what happened to him. Joined by Ronnie Grogan (Amanda Christine), they go to the cinema to find answers, only for them to be attacked by a baby monster creature, leaving Ronnie and Lilly as the only survivors. Leroy Hanlon (Jovan Adepo) gets moved to an Air Force Basecamp in Derry for an important project.
The episode begins with Lilly waking up, remembering the vicious attack that killed her three friends. It’s been a week since the incident, and the police are watching the Grogans’ home, sure that Hank (Stephen Rider) has been involved with Matty’s disappearance and the tragedy of the three kids.
Leroy’s family moves into their house in Derry. We meet his son, Will (Blake Cameron James), and his wife, Charlotte (Taylour Paige). Leroy gifts Will a telescope as a welcome gift, something Charlotte advised him on.
Ronnie returns to school, and everyone stares at her; meanwhile, Lilly stays quiet in class. Marge (Matilda Lawler) warns her about hanging out with Ronnie, saying that everyone’s judging her for it. Will shows up late for class, being a new student. The teacher gives him a hard time, warning him not to show up late again.
At Basecamp, Leroy meets with Colonel Fuller (Thomas Mitchell). Colonel tells him that Sgt. Masters (Chad Rook) was the one who attacked him, saying they found the weapons in his quarters. However, Leroy goes to speak with Sgnt. Master’s at his cell. He believes he wasn’t the one who attacked him because of the gun that was held in front of his face that night. Afterwards, Leroy lets General Shaw (James Remar) know that Sgnt. Masters is not guilty. General informs him that it was a test to prove if what he heard about Leroy’s head injury was true: he is a man with no fear.
Charlotte goes to town, picking up some groceries. She sees some kids bullying others and goes to stop them. She looks around, noticing she’s the only one who went to do something. At dinner, she asks Will if he’s been bullied at school, but he lies, telling her no.
At night, Ronnie’s in bed, and she hears her grandma and dad arguing. She tries to ignore it. slamming her fist into her mattress, and suddenly feels a heartbeat coming from the bed. She starts to pull her sheet off from above her, but she’s trapped underneath. The sheet turns into flesh, and fluid begins to drip, as she begins to drown. She’s forced out, like a baby from the womb. When she looks at her bed, she sees it has become her mother.. She tells Ronnie that she killed her during childbirth, just like she killed the kids, and that she’ll kill her father too. Ronnie tries to escape, but the umbilical cord is attached to her, leaving her helpless. She screams until her dad comes into the room, only to find nothing there.
The next day, at school lunch, Ronnie comes to Lilly and tells her about what happened last night. The two of them argue about what Lilly told the police and what will happen to Ronnie’s dad if he gets arrested. Ronnie ends up in detention after yelling at Lilly, where she meets Will, who got in trouble for something he didn’t do.
Lilly gets pulled in by the police for more questioning. Chief Bowers (Peter Outerbridge) tells her that people think she had something to do with the murders. He informs her that she will be sent back to Juniper Hill Asylum, which she hasn’t been to since her father died. He asks her if she’s certain he wasn’t there that night.

Later that night, Hank gets arrested. Ronnie then goes to Lilly’s house, demanding to know what Lilly told the police. Lilly apologizes, telling her that the chief tricked her.
Lilly is grocery shopping for her mom when she hears noises and voices. A man follows her closely behind, but when she turns around, no one is there. She continues walking and finds herself trapped in an aisle of cereal boxes, with Susie, Matty, Phil, and Teddy’s faces on them. She quickly turns around, only to be surrounded by pickle jars. She walks closer toward them and sees her father’s distorted face inside one of the jars. The jars begin crashing to the floor as a pickle creature charges Lilly. She screams in fear, only to open her eyes and see nothing wrong. After what happened, her mother takes her to the Asylum.
General takes Leroy to a classified part of the base. He shows Leroy their project, telling him that they’re looking for a weapon buried in Derry. General then takes Leroy to the digsite where Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk) has been assigned to work on the covert project. Dick is essential to this major project because of his psychic ability. General Shaw assigned Dick to help as a compass for finding the beacons from underground. They dig up an old vehicle, the same vehicle Matty was taken in. The doors open, and they see the corpses inside.
Overall, this was a great episode, full of suspense and creepiness. Amanda Christine has done such a great job in this episode, being extremely terrified during the bedroom scene and having so much emotion for her dad’s situation. Everyone’s being haunted by their fears, as they were in the films. What will happen to Lilly now that she’s in the asylum? What more will General and the crew find now that they have found the car and corpses?
