According to Deadline, Australian actor Levi Miller (A Wrinkle in Time, Kraven the Hunter) has joined the cast of Bloodaxe. This new Prime Video drama was created, written, and executive produced by Michael Hirst (Vikings, The Tudors) and his son, Horatio Hirst (Vikings: Valhalla, Billy the Kid).
Miller will play Haakon the Good, the younger half-brother of Viking Erik Bloodaxe, who is played by Xavier Molyneux (Take My Hand, Love You Like That). Deadline is the first to reveal this casting and that of the female lead Jessica Madsen (Bridgerton, Leatherface), who will play Bloodaxe’s wife Gunnhild, otherwise known as the Mother of Kings.
The story of Bloodaxe follows Erik Bloodaxe, one of history’s most famous Norse raiders, and his powerful wife, Gunnhild, as they battle for the throne of Norway. Within this process, the land is broken apart by vicious rivals, changing loyalties, and brutal betrayals. War is impending and chaos is taking apart the kingdom, meanwhile the ruthless Kings of other Scandinavian countries along with a prominent English ruler set the stage for a catastrophic, riveting, and exceptional new Norse saga, Deadline adds.
The show was ordered in March, and it will be produced by MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios. Deadline stated that production is beginning in Ireland and Iceland later this summer. Michael and Horatio Hirst will write and showrun, and under his O’Sullivan Productions label, Morgan O’Sullivan (A Secret Affair, A Shine of Rainbows) will executive produce, along with Steve Stark (The Handmaid’s Tale, Wednesday) under his Toluca Pictures label, John Weber (Vikings, The Handmaid’s Tale), Arturo Interian (Vikings, Project Blue Book), Fred Toye (The Boys, Fallout), and Sheila Hockin (The Handmaid’s Tale, Halo).
Miller recently wrapped on a feature adaptation of the novel Shiver, alongside Maddie Zeigler (Dance Moms, The Fallout) and Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine, the Last Song). He starred in the Disney+ pilot Witch Mountain, directed by Augustine Frizzell (Never Goin’ Back, The Last Letter from Your Lover), along with Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World, The Help). He is most recently seen in Marvel/Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, and he plays a younger version of the title character played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train, Nosferatu), Deadline notes.
Miller also starred in Warner Bros’ Pan, Better Watch Out alongside Virginia Madsen (Candyman, Sideways) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things, Elvis), Ava Duvernay (Origin, 13th)’s A Wrinkle in Time, and Jasper Jones, which was based on the Australian novel, opposite Hugo Weaving (V for Vendetta, The Matrix) and Toni Collette (Hereditary, Mickey 17), as mentioned by Deadline.
Deadline included that Miller is represented by Rogue Management, Verve, Eaton Management, and Felker Toczek Suddleson.
