Disney Plus’s original series The Mandalorian ,season three episode six entitled “Guns for Hire,” kicks off with Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze as they visit an independent planet. This is due to them finding out that other outcast Mandalorians are based on the planet. The interesting part about this is how the planet seems to be free from the hardships of the empire or the aftermath of the rebellion. Thanks to the marvelous cinematography, the viewer can see how beautiful the planet is. This is demonstrated by how the planet looks clean with clear skies and no dark clouds in the air. Not to mention that the people seem to be living productive lives with droids as their servants. In their minds, they are shocked at how peaceful the planet is as well as how the people do not have to worry about the turmoil of the aftermath. It can be assumed by the viewer that something might be wrong as everything looks too good to be true.
Additionally, Din and Bo-Katan meet Jack Black’s Captain Bombardier and his wife Lizzo’s Duchess of Plazir as they talk about the issues they have with their droids. In their minds, they know that finding the issue is the only option for them and their people. Deep down they know shutting down the droids is the best option. Unfortunately, their people have lost the ability to function without the use of droids. This ends up being an interesting aspect as it holds a mirror to how in real life, people are slowly losing the ability to think for themselves due to technology. Another interesting aspect is when they talk to the droid makers, Bo-Katan tries to talk to them from a superior perspective. This is demonstrated by how she talks about the droids malfunctioning and the makers take it as an offense as they value their trade. Luckily, Din knows how to talk to them as a result of his time spent with one of their kind who was his friend. This shows how sometimes one must speak with the tone of a friend rather than a superior.
Towards the end of the episode, Din and Bo-Katan find out that the malfunction is due to Christopher Lloyd’s Commissioner Helgait infecting the droids programming with a code that make them act randomly. In his mind, he sees that the planet’s people being lazy is due to Captain Bombardier involvement with reprogramming the droids to serve. Deep down he just longed for the days when the people knew how to think for themselves. And he hates that they have become slaves to their own comforts. The interesting part about him is how he genuinely cares about the Duchess enough to take his punishment without trying to resist her sentencing him.
At the end of the episode, Bo-Katan fights to regain control of the outcast Mandalorians. In their minds, they see her as a fake leader ever since she was gifted the Dark Saber. Also, they saw how obsessed she was with ruling instead of uniting all of their people as true Mandalorians. Unfortunately, even though she wins she still is not accepted due to her not having the Dark Saber. In her mind, she knows that with the dark saber she will never be able to unite everyone. Not to mention that deep down she does not want to fight Din over it as she sees him as a friend. This demonstrates a great character development for her as before she met Din, she was extremely obsessed with being the ruler of Mandalore. Now she does not care about ruling only uniting her people.
