HBO Max’s original series Succession ,season four episode four entitled “Honeymoon States,” starts with the Roy siblings as they try to figure out a plan to keep the company in the family. This is due to the board of directors wanting to take the company for themselves as a power play. Unfortunately, they cannot decide on what to do as each of them wants to take over. Luckily, the Roy siblings are highly untied to protect their father’s legacy despite their issues with him. The series does a great job at demonstrating that no matter what, a family is still a family. However, things take a turn in a more interesting way for the Roy siblings.
Additionally, the viewer finds out that Brian Cox’s Logan Roy has left a will that states he wanted Jeremy Strong’s Kendall Roy to take over the company. In his mind, all his life he has felt that his father never loved him. This is due to Logan ignoring him for most of his life as well hiding his mother from him as he had issues with her. Now that he finds out his father wants him to take over, he questions what he feels for him. Deep down he hated him for so long and even joined his siblings against him to take him down. Now that he sees the will, he sees it as a way to be better than his father. This is a result of him finally feeling as if he has been given a chance to shine for once in his life.
At the end of the episode, the viewer sees that Kendall and Kieran Culkin’s Roman Roy decide to share the power. In their minds, it would be a logical move on their part since they both have experience with the company. Unfortunately, they leave Sarah Snook’s Shiv Roy on the sidelines as it would not go over well with the rest of the board. Also, apparently, she does not have much experience in their eyes. In her mind, she feels that they are being completely unfair with them, leaving her on the sidelines. It is as if she will work hard, and they will get credit for her efforts. The series again shows the real-life situations when it comes women being overlooked in favor of the men. Luckily, by the look on her face, Shiv will not be silent when it comes to running the company. What is interesting about this is how Shiv resembles her father more than the others. She has a hurtful way of expressing herself to others just like him. Another example would be how she does not care about what others think of her and does not apologize for her comments. It can be assumed by the reader that perhaps this is why Logan did not choose her to take over. He probably was worried she would make the same mistakes he did. Not to mention that he wants her to live a better life than he did as well.
