In the third installment of Task, we learn about Robbie being affiliated with the Dark Hearts gang, as his brother was beaten to death at the hands of Jayson. Maeve talks to Robbie about being affiliated, questioning how she thought they were away from those people. We then see the return of Kathleen McGinty, where Tom and the gang, once again, talk about Peaches and the informant of the Dark Hearts. Jayson and Perry then visit a friend named Freddy, whom they ask for help in dealing with Robbie and Cliff. He agrees if he gets a 50% cut of the money. We also get to meet the real informant in this episode (so, it seems like the Dark Hearts gang may have attacked the wrong person).
Later, FBI agents Aleah and Lizzy visit Peaches’ job, handing out flyers of Sam and asking for info about Peaches and the case. Tom and Anthony go to the Dark Hearts bar of choice, where they question Jayson about the Dark Viper rival gang, the shootout that killed two Vipers, and how the murder weapon was a match to one of the guns used in the shootout. Later, Aleah and Lizzy are in a diner, where they talk to one of the workers for information about Peaches. He reveals that Peaches got riches from hitting houses and mentions Cliff.
After a little Maeve-bonding time with Sam, showing her parenting skills, we finally meet Ethan. Emily is visiting him in prison, where they quickly reconnect and talk about the sentencing. Meanwhile, Cliff and Robbie stop by their friend Ray’s place, where they reconnect and ask him about helping with moving the stolen drugs.
Following the lead about Peaches, Tom and the FBI team head to a home that seems to have been broken into. After entering and some initial searching, Tom is sideswiped by a masked intruder, who they catch, while one is on the run with Liz in pursuit. The intruders are revealed to be Ray and his wife, Shelley. Cliff and Robbie end up driving to the scene, discovering the FBI (at the house that turns out to be Cliff’s). Back at the bar, another “innocent biker” is unfortunately added to the suspected rats list.
Tom, Anthony, and the ladies are shown speaking to Shelley and Ray. Shelley tells Liz and Aleah about Cliff visiting their house with another suspect (Robbie is unknown to them) and their drug-smuggling plan. Ray isn’t cracking about Robbie, so Tom and Anthony make him give them his phone to set up Cliff with a fake drug meetup. Cliff is shown receiving the text with Robbie, and they are none the wiser about what may happen.
Speaking of what may happen, it seems like a deeper relationship may be brewing between Anthony and Lizzy when they grab drinks at the bar, and whether or not they may become a thing. Sarah and Aleah have a quick exchange after she brings Tom home, since he has a bad concussion from the intruder. Sarah and Tom talk about drifting apart and Ethan. Emily winds up getting back home as they are having the conversation, where it is revealed that even Tom doesn’t want Ethan to come back. We then get a flashback involving Tom and his wife, where we see a completely different man from what he is now. We flip back to the present, where Joe brings up a possible conflict within the task team: there may be an informant within the group, which could explain how the Dark Hearts know so much about Cliff and the FBI.
This episode delivered the first instance of an actual fight/chase, and it felt like there was going to be a longer action scene than what we got. That was a little disappointing, but it’s not the end of the world. It felt less complex than the previous episode, which was meant to show more backstory and the unfolding of Robbie and Cliff’s lives. It seems like the FBI is discovering and solving a little too fast, but with four more episodes left, we’ll see what unfolds soon.
