Our 8th and final episode begins with Simon and his father getting food after watching Wonder Man and talking about Simon’s potential future. Back in the present, damage control goes to investigate the studio explosion, while Simon heads back home.
Damage Control heads to Simon’s apartment to arrest him, when Trevor calls Simon to tell him he figured out what to do to make things right. Simon then watches the news to see that Trevor (posing as The Mandarin) confessed to blowing up the Wonder Man studio. The show must go on however, so Simon is brought to the set to continue Wonder Man.
We then see the final product playing in theatres, with Simon and his family watching the screening. After the screening, Simon speaks with Von Kovak about how they could possibly do a sequel and even gets complimented by Eric. A little while later, Simon is talking to Chuck Eastman in a bar about researching and examining him to get each detail right for his performance.
He then goes to Chuck’s house for a nice dinner, goes with Chuck to his checkup, talks with him about a family member getting sick, and even jogs with him. Chuck then gives Simon a job with him to show him what he goes through every day to make sure his performance is the best. The job turns out to be the Department of Damage Control. Simon breaks Trevor out of his cell, and they fly away.
The conclusion of this episode was nothing crazy, but it leaves a window for a potential second season. This show was unique in its take on the superhero genre, where it seemed to focus more on the careers of Simon and Trevor in Hollywood, instead of the alter egos. It was nice seeing the friendship grow between Trevor and Simon, and sucked when the betrayal nearly broke them, only for Trevor to save Simon, and for Simon to save Trevor in return. It seemed like more superhero stuff was occurring in the later episodes, so maybe the second season can bring a little more of the superhero action in. Obviously it doesn’t have to go fully into the usual superhero type show, as that is what makes it different, but maybe just a few action scenes to make it stand out from season 1, while also keeping its more grounded theme. Overall though, the show was pretty good, had an interesting direction, and was a good watch.
