Review: Twisted Metal Season 1 Episode 1 “WLUDRV”

Peacock’s original series Twisted Metal ,season one episode one entitled “WLUDRV,” kicks off with Anthony Mackie’s John Doe as shown in a montage of him delivering packages in a post-apocalyptic world. This is due to him needing certain things to survive as the cities are locked down for safety. From what the viewer can see, he is someone who does not take things seriously.

Additionally, this can be assumed by how when on a run he gets ambushed and he just acts as if it is not a problem. In his mind, he probably knows the area he drives in so well it lets him outmaneuver anyone who tries to kill him. The surprising part about this is how he has a moment where he remembers the time when he was a kid and has a genuine smile. From here the viewer sees that he is a broken person as a result of losing his parents. That is why he does not take anything seriously as that is a defense mechanism to hide his pain.

Towards the end of the episode, the viewer sees that John is offered an opportunity to join a community by Neve Campbell’s Raven in exchange for transporting something for her. From what the viewer can see Raven believes John is crazy enough to undertake the job to transport her goods.  However, things may not be as they seem due to Raven lying about her family. This gives the viewer a hint that he will probably be killed after he completes his run. The surprising part about this is how Stephanie Beatriz’s Quiet and her brother have a run in with Thomas Church’s Agent Stone as they flee from committing a crime. This is a result of them stealing supplies in order to survive the harsh world. In her mind, she does not know why Agent Stone is chasing her as the law does not exist anymore. Deep down she knows he is just another crazy person that this world has created. In Agent Stone’s mind, he sees that this world needs order, and he must do his part to put the world back together.

At the end of the episode, John and Quiet come across each other as they both have reasons for their motivations. From what the viewer can see, they will have to work together as Samoa Joe’s Sweet Tooth comes after them. In Sweet Tooth’s mind, he sees them as intruders due to him having control of the area he lives in. From the look of his mask and his truck the viewer sees him as a disturbed man. They probably will have to face numerous threats as the area they currently reside in could be filled with more crazy people.
