Previously on Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, Steven (Sean Kaufman) gets into a car accident after an argument with Taylor (Rain Spencer). While staying at the hospital, Belly (Lola Tung) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) talk, with Jeremiah proposing to her after they agree to start over.
Belly and Jeremiah haven’t told anyone about the engagement yet, wanting to wait until the weekend when everyone is together.
Belly meets with Taylor at the cafe for breakfast. Taylor is upset that Steven chose just to stay friends, even though she had made that decision before he had the accident. Taylor notices Belly being weird, so Belly tells her about the engagement. Taylor doesn’t feel like it’s the right time for them to be engaged, especially because of the cheating, but Belly thinks it’ll make them stronger as a couple.
Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Agnes (Zoé De Grand Maison) take a run together. He tells her that he’s not ready to work with patients at the hospital, finding a new job for the summer, working in data. Agnes knows someone who could possibly give him a different job.
Belly reunites with her roommate, Anika (Sofia Bryant), before she leaves campus. After packing everything up, John (Colin Ferguson) takes Belly home. They make it home, and while Belly goes upstairs to her room, John and Laurel have a talk, agreeing to keep a distance from each other for a while.
Later, Taylor’s outside, and her mom, Lucinda (Kristen Connolly), welcomes her home. Lucinda tells Taylor that she should give Steven another chance, saying that he’s always been there for her and that they’re good for each other.
The next day, Jeremiah tries to call Conrad to tell him the news, but Conrad is out with Agnes. Agnes knows that Conrad is avoiding Belly and thinks he should go to Cousins so he can make the speech in dedication to their mom, which Jeremiah has been working on by himself.
Taylor comes over to the Conklins’ and apologizes to Belly for how she reacted to the news. They go upstairs, and Belly shows her the ring. Taylor freaks out in excitement, happy for her best friend.
Taylor gets back home, and as she goes to her bedroom. Lucinda calls Steven and asks if he can come over to help her with her business stuff, since she broke up with her boyfriend.
Belly and Laurel (Jackie Chung) go through pictures to find good ones for Susannah’s dedication.
It’s the day of the dedication, and everyone gets ready. Before leaving the house, Steven calls Taylor about Lucinda’s financial status with her business. He tells her that it’s not looking good; her savings will only last for a month. He asks if he can help, but Taylor is more upset that Lucinda asked Steven to look at her stuff. She hangs up and confronts her mom. Taylor yells at her mom about Scott, Lucinda’s ex. Lucinda tells her that she’ll fix it.
Jeremiah finishes his speech, and Belly tells him that he did a good job. Belly looks around and sees Conrad. Jeremiah brightens up, seeing his brother, and everyone says hi to him, hugging him.
Steven and Conrad talk and catch up. Conrad tells him that he’s proud of him, having a successful job. Steven is grateful that Conrad helped get him better assistance in the hospital.
The Conklins and Fishers, including their dad Adam (Tom Everett Scott), have lunch together after the dedication. As Adam makes a toast to them all being together, Belly abruptly tells them that she and Jeremiah are engaged. Laurel asks if it’s a joke, but they all realize it’s real. Everyone has a bad reaction to the news. Conrad stays silent, and Laurel angrily cancels the food. Instead of going back to Cousins with Jeremiah, Laurel makes Belly go back home with her and Steven. Everyone is gone, and Conrad is left at the restaurant. He stands still in the parking lot, confused and heartbroken.
Overall, this was a good episode, filled with lots of drama. Christopher Briney’s role as Conrad never fails; his emotions are visible throughout the entire time he’s back in Cousins. There’s no surprise that everyone was shocked by the news of the engagement. Jeremiah and Belly are young and just got back together after a nasty breakup. Even though Taylor was upset with Lucinda, she shouldn’t have reacted the way she did, making her mom feel small. What will happen now that everyone knows about the engagement?
