Previously on Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, Belly (Lola Tung) decides to stay in Paris for the meantime, to figure herself out. Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) makes Conrad (Christopher Briney) leave Cousins and never come back. Taylor (Rain Spencer) and Steven (Sean Kaufman) give their relationship one more try.
The episode begins with Belly still in Paris, while it’s Thanksgiving. She’s cooking for her roommates. Her roommates don’t care much for her, finding it odd that an American lives with them. She’s been there for three months. She has two jobs: one at the cinema and the other in a restaurant. She FaceTime’s Taylor when she gets home from work. They plan for Taylor to come to Paris for New Year’s.
Steven’s hosting a Friendsgiving at his place with Taylor, Jeremiah, Denise (Isabella Briggs), and other friends. When Denise shows up at the door, Adam (Tom Everett Scott) shows up behind her. Steven lets them both inside, and Jeremiah’s confused as to why his dad’s there. Jeremiah’s been lying to Adam about a lot of things going on with his life, including where he’s been living. He’s been staying with Steven, but Adam thought he was living at the fraternity house on campus. Adam decides to cut off his funds, saying that he has to learn to become more independent rather than rely on his dad. Denise agrees to let Jeremiah stay at her place, but only for one week.
It’s Christmas Eve, and Belly closes up the restaurant alone. She texts Jeremiah, but he doesn’t respond. Her friend Benito (Fernando Cattori) finds her dancing and asks her to come inside. He asks her to come for a walk through the city, but she says no, so they make a bet. Although she wins, she still goes with him.
Conrad and Steven are with Laurel (Jackie Chung) and John (Tom Everett Scott) at the summer house in Cousins for Christmas Eve. Steven gets a phone call informing him that the funding for his and Denise’s business is going to end. Adam comes into the living room, noticing Steven freaking out. He’s the reason why the funding stopped, and Steven makes a quick decision to quit, surprising Adam.
Jeremiah, not emotionally ready, avoids the gathering at the summer house and returns to Denise’s. After she spends time with family, she comes back home, and he tells her about his night. Jeremiah tells her that he feels like losing Belly has been worse than losing his mom, only because Belly is still physically here. She makes him come back with her to her family’s home, so that he doesn’t spend the rest of the evening alone.
It’s New Year’s Eve, and Taylor comes to Paris. Belly takes her around the city, and the two of them go shopping. While they’re decorating for the New Year’s Eve party, Jeremiah calls Belly. The two of them talk for a short amount of time, Jeremiah letting her know that he’s okay. During the party, Belly receives a package from Conrad: Sour Patch Kids, the stuffed Polar Bear from their childhood, the infinity necklace, and a letter. Conrad’s been writing Belly letters throughout her time in Paris.
Belly and Benito share a countdown kiss.
The winter season is over, and Belly’s been seeing Benito romantically. She’s helping Gemma (Corinna Brown) move in with her girlfriend, Max (Jahz Armando). Belly’s been preparing to leave Paris during the summer for her graduation, and she may stay back in America for the time being, but Gemma offers her the apartment, which makes her rethink what she wants to do.
Jeremiah runs into Conrad at their mom’s grave. It’s been five years since she passed. Conrad tells his brother that he misses him and he’s sorry about everything. He tells him about the promise he made to Susannah before she died: that he would protect Jeremiah from getting hurt. Jeremiah admits that he also made a promise to her: that he wouldn’t let something get in between their brotherhood. The two of them hug, Jeremiah admitting that he needs his brother. Jeremiah gives him the green light to fix things with Belly, to see if there’s anything left between the two of them.
Belly finally writes back to Conrad, thanking him for the gifts and the letters. She gives him an update on her new lifestyle. Conrad decides to go to Paris before Brussels for his work conference; meanwhile, Belly gets a new haircut.
Overall, this was a really good episode. We got to see more of Belly’s new life in Paris, away from home. It’s good to see that Jeremiah finally opened back up to Conrad, fixing things and being able to hear him out. Now that Conrad has the green light and will be going to Paris, what will happen with him and Belly?
