Previously on the HBO Max series The Pitt, everyone came together as they said their goodbyes to their frequent patient Louie, who passed away during treatment.
The episode begins with everyone leaving the viewing room and resetting for the rest of their shift. Dana, Baran, and Emma go to talk with a sexual assault patient in triage. While Baran asks the girl, Ilana, questions, Dana and Emma go to get a room situated for her, only to find Dr. Ellis trying to take a nap before her shift. Dana and Emma start their process with Ilana, who’s very visibly uncomfortable. Dana is very gentle with the girl, making sure she’s comfortable during the whole process.
Javadi grabs Baran when Jackson’s parents show up. While talking to the parents, Baran quickly excuses herself to the bathroom, locking the door immediately behind her. She makes a phone call to the Pittsburgh Neuroscience Group, wanting to speak to her therapist. Later, Dr. Jefferson informs Jackson’s family that he’s suffering from a prolonged mental condition. His parents reveal that his uncle struggled with a mental disorder.
McKay’s cancer patient’s husband comes back to the ER, only for him to show up with their kids, which makes it harder for Robby and McKay to convince her to go back home.
They receive an incoming police officer trauma. Dr. Jack Abbot is with the patient, in uniform. While in the room with Robby and Santos, Jack helps lead the procedure with the two doctors. Baran comes into the room to check and is introduced to Jack.
Samira and King are outside when they receive another incoming patient. The football player patient thinks he’s just dehydrated, but Samira, Frank, and King believe otherwise. They also have Joy and Ogilvie assist with the patient.
Robby and Frank end up receiving a patient together from the helicopter transport. Frank immediately apologizes to Robby for everything, and Robby accepts it, saying, “I’m really glad you got the help that you need. But, I don’t know if I want you working in my ER,” which leaves Frank speechless.
After convincing him to say, Samira checks on her patient, Orlando, only to find Jack there instead. He was grazed with a bullet before bringing in his fellow SWAT police officer. He struggles to reach his wound, so Samira does it for him.
Santos, still trying to finish her charting, is abruptly distracted by Baby Jane Doe’s crying, so she goes to check it out. Jesse steps out of the room, leaving Santos alone with the crying infant. She sings to calm the babygirl down. Later, Santos is napping in the restroom when a rushing Javadi stirs her awake. As she exits, viewers are alarmed to see self-harm marks on Santos’ thighs.
The hospital CEO comes and has Robby get all of his staff. They’re informed that Westbridge suffered a cyberattack, and another hospital has been affected. The Pitt will have to shut down all of its digital technology in case it becomes vulnerable and is attacked. Whitaker quickly takes a picture of the board right before the screens shut off.
Overall, this was an interesting episode. One scene that stood out was seeing Jack Abbott in his element while in his uniform, learning that when he’s not working his night shifts, he’s helping police officers in the line of fire. Another scene that stood out was Dana and Emma’s patient, Ilana, during the exam. Katherine LaNasa did a wonderful job this episode as Dana, showing a more emotional and vulnerable side. We learn that Dr. Baran has PTSD, which stems from traumatic experiences, which explains the moments she froze with baby Jane Doe, and also when she dissociated herself from Jackson’s parents. We also learn more about Santos, as we see her having a vulnerable moment with the baby and the scene where we see her scars, which can change viewers’ perspectives on her, using anger as a way to cope or ignore her feelings. Now that PTMC has gone analog, there will be more drama to come.
