Review: ‘The Pitt’ Season 2, Episode 4 “10:00 AM”

Previously on the HBO Max series The Pitt, Santos learns that her young patient, Kylie, wasn’t being abused by her father. Baran and Robby are still going back and forth, while Javadi and Ogilvie are doing the same. Now, everyone has to prepare for another hospital’s code black— patients from a different hospital will be immediately transferred to the PTMC.

The episode begins with new patients coming in.

King and Santos have a patient exhibiting flu-like symptoms. She’s trying to rush her time there, wanting to leave and go to work. Mel worries it’s something deeper, voicing her concerns to Santos.  The two question the patient, who, after a while, admits to being bulimic.

The ambulances begin bringing in patients from the other hospital. Santos, Whitaker, and Javadi bring them in, while Robby waits outside for more. After receiving their third patient, they bring him in for surgery. The patient is injured from a 10-ft fall. Joy becomes a patient when the glass cuts through her finger while working on the procedure.

The mental patient, Jackson, gets a visit from his sister, who learns about what happened. They take him to get a CT scan, and Baran tells her to wait there. She tells Javadi that it was out of character for him to attack the security guard, saying that he’s been focused on his education and his relationship.

Robby continues to not let Frank come back from triage, using the excuse that since it’s his first day back, he should ease into the shift. But Robby is just avoiding him.

One of McKay’s patients has been flirting with her, and he’s received the okay to be released from the ER. The two of them agree to go on a date after her shift.

We learn that Dr. Collins has finished her residency in the PTMC and has moved to Portland to be closer to her family, while deciding to adopt a baby.

Samira’s patient, Orlando, doesn’t have medical insurance, so Noelle gives her some options to give him and his family. The daughter, Ana, overhears their conversation and begins to worry about her dad. Samira reassures her that they’ll figure it out. Orlando tells Samira that because of no insurance, he hasn’t been able to take the full amount of diabetic medication.

After almost finishing the procedure with the fall patient, they notice a puddle of blood coming from his back, so they flip him over. Ogilvie finds a shard of glass still inside and goes to pull it out, but it’s bigger than expected, causing the patient to lose a lot of blood. Robby gets him to stop pulling, and Ogilvie panics. They get him stable after removing the glass.

Frank has a patient whose eye is glued shut after using super glue for her eyelashes. He does a few things to try to reopen the eye, but nothing works. The patient begins to ask for Dr. J, but Frank doesn’t know who that is— until it’s revealed to be Javadi. He learns that Javadi has been posting videos on social media regarding her time at PTMC. Javadi successfully reopens the patient’s eye after cutting off the entire eyelash.

Dana tells Robby it’s time for him and Frank to “clear the air,” and he considers it.

Overall, this wasn’t as overwhelming as most of The Pitt’s episodes have been. Lucas Iverson’s role as Ogilvie was a big focus in this episode, with him not making the right moves during the procedure and his continuous tit-for-tat with Javadi. It would be nice for Robby and Frank to talk and amend things, but that might be wishful thinking this early into the season. What’s next for hour five?
