Previously on the HBO Max series The Pitt, Samira has a panic attack, and Robby lashes out at her. Meanwhile, King’s sister Becca gets admitted to the ER due to a UTI from having sex with her boyfriend. We see a more emotional side of King as she struggles with her sister getting older and fears ending up alone.
The episode begins with Dr. McKay giving Roxie an extra dose of morphine. Javadi, teary-eyed, steps out of the room. Meanwhile, Samira gets back on her feet after recovering from her panic attack.
Dr. King argues with her sister, Becca. Frank gets in the middle, telling King to leave the room after making Becca cry. Later, King and Frank talk outside. King overthinks the situation, saying that she doesn’t think Becca’s residence is a safe place for her. As they’re talking, a mother speeds in with her son Micah, who’s unresponsive. He’s suffering from extreme heat stroke. Joy and Baran assist the two.
Dana and Robby learn that Roxie’s passed. Meanwhile, McKay takes Ogilvie to treat an unhoused patient at the nearby park. McKay’s patient, Kiki, has a large wound on her thigh, caused by drugs. As they get back to the hospital, Robby tells McKay about Roxie. Before they can speak any further, two ICE agents enter with a woman detainee. The agents claim the woman injured her arm during the arrest. Robby does his best to fast-track her treatment as ICE’s presence forces patients and staff to leave the hospital.
Whitaker and Santos have a patient with a dislocated elbow after securing a foul ball at a baseball game. He denies any sedation or medication to help with the pain. They manually push his arm back into place, and he screams loud enough for the whole hospital to hear.
Ogilvie’s kidney stone patient crashes due to a failed scan of his heart. He and Javadi take him to the triage with the help of Perlah, Samira, and Robby. Javadi’s mother assists as they lose his pulse. Robby allows Javadi to show her mom that she’s meant to be in the ER.
Later, Baran finds Micah’s mother, Brenda, outside. Brenda tries to step in front of an incoming truck, but Baran quickly grabs her. Baran secures her in a room for a psych evaluation.
Dana finds King on the stairs. She rants to Dana about her feelings, scared that she’ll be alone forever.
Frank finally confronts Santos to apologize to her for how he acted. Santos admits that she doesn’t believe his apology. She demands he tell everyone exactly what he did, and until then, to stay out of her way.
The episode closes with Emma checking on a patient under sedation. He suddenly wakes up, startled, and immediately puts her in a chokehold.
Overall, this was a very chaotic and stressful episode. Between Jesse’s arrest and the cliffhanger of Emma, there was so much unnecessary violence going on. The scene where Jesse gets arrested stands out, especially knowing that the actor, Ned Brower, is a real-life ER nurse. It’s only imaginable how he must have felt when filming the scene. It’s nerve-wracking to think about what’s to come in the next episode.
