With our characters trapped in the middle of a warzone in Seattle, Dina and Jesse try to recover and reach safety after the attack by the Scar people. Dina still has an arrow lodged in her leg, so Jesse rushes to relieve her pain and decides to push the arrow through her leg. Before doing so, he sterilizes the arrow with alcohol and offers some to Dina to drink, but she refuses—unbeknownst to Jesse, because she is pregnant. Once Jesse successfully gets the arrow out, Ellie returns to the theater shortly after and immediately tends to Dina. Ellie tries to comfort her, but Dina notices that Ellie is visibly shaken by what she’s done and takes it upon herself to clean Ellie up and talk to her.
Ellie confesses to Dina that she found and tortured Nora for information—and that it was easy for her to do. Dina responds that Nora deserved it, but Ellie pushes back, suggesting maybe she didn’t. She then tells Dina the truth about Joel’s actions, including the fact that he killed Abby’s father. Dina is visibly conflicted after Ellie’s confession and tells her they need to go home immediately.
The next morning, Jesse and Ellie set out to find Tommy so they can all return home together. On their journey, Jesse confronts Ellie about Dina—specifically pointing out that she turned down the alcohol he offered, hinting at her pregnancy. He also brings up the awkward dynamic now between the three of them. Jesse is clearly upset with Ellie for dragging them to Seattle on a revenge mission and insists on finding Tommy as soon as possible.
While on their way, Jesse and Ellie witness a Seraphite being attacked by a group of WLF soldiers. Ellie wants to save the Seraphite, especially since he’s just a kid, but Jesse stops her. He refuses to help anyone in Seattle, calling it someone else’s war and saying he won’t die for them.
Meanwhile, as the war between the Seraphites and WLF rages on, Isaac searches for Abby. He expresses concern that he and the other WLF leaders could be taken out in the conflict and places his trust in Abby to lead once he’s gone. Isaac sees the WLF soldiers as sheep and believes Abby is their future. However, not everyone agrees—especially since Abby has gone missing and no one can locate her.
Ellie and Jesse eventually find shelter during their search for Tommy. Ellie tries to make amends with Jesse, but they overhear WLF soldiers panicking about a sniper taking them out. They realize it might be Tommy and consult their map to determine his likely location. From a ledge, they spot a Ferris wheel in the distance near an aquarium, and Ellie suddenly recalls that Nora may have been hinting at that location when she mentioned Abby.
Driven by this realization, Ellie decides to go after Abby immediately, leaving Jesse to find Tommy on his own. She downplays the urgency of Tommy’s situation, showing just how consumed she is by revenge. Jesse calls her out for her selfishness, but Ellie ignores him, and they part ways.
While pursuing Abby, Ellie is captured by a group of Seraphites. She tries to explain she’s not with the WLF, but they nearly kill her. At the last second, loud alarms sound, drawing the Seraphites away to respond to the ongoing war. This distraction gives Ellie time to escape and swim to the pier where the aquarium is located.
Inside the aquarium, Ellie moves carefully through the building searching for Abby. She comes across Owen and Mel talking about Abby. When Ellie hears Abby’s name, she holds them at gunpoint and demands they reveal Abby’s location. Owen and Mel recognize who Ellie is and try to de-escalate the situation, but Ellie forces Mel to point to Abby’s location on a map. She warns them both that if their answers don’t match, they’ll die.
Owen, realizing the danger, pretends to move toward the map but suddenly tries to grab his gun. Ellie reacts by shooting him in the neck. The shot also grazes Mel, who collapses to the ground and reveals she is pregnant. She tries to tell Ellie to cut the baby out but loses consciousness before she can give instructions. Ellie is horrified by what she’s done and breaks down in grief.
Tommy and Jesse arrive shortly after and console Ellie, taking her back to the theater visibly shaken by her actions.
Still traumatized, Ellie talks with Tommy as they plan their return home. When Jesse and Ellie are left alone, they start to reconcile. Jesse admits he cares for Ellie and knows she would risk everything for him if the roles were reversed. Their moment is short-lived. They hear chaos nearby and rush to find Tommy.
As they open a door, Jesse is suddenly shot in the face and killed. Abby has found them and is ready for revenge. She tells Ellie that she let her live once, and Ellie wasted it. Abby points a gun at Ellie. The screen goes black. A gunshot is heard—but we don’t know who was hit.
The episode ends by rewinding to Day 1 in Seattle—but now from Abby’s perspective, setting the stage for her story in the next season.
This was a powerful and well-executed season finale that brought the season’s narrative full circle while setting up what’s next. Bella Ramsey has delivered standout performances all season, and this finale showcases her best work yet. She proves she can carry the show without Joel, portraying Ellie’s emotional transformation as revenge erodes the light she once had. The finale underlines the ongoing cycle of violence started by Joel’s actions and how it continues to shape—and break—the people involved.
While the episode ends somewhat abruptly with a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving the season feeling slightly incomplete, the story it tells is compelling. Overall, Season 2 is a worthy follow-up to the first, coming together in a finale that teases a new narrative arc centered on Abby.
