Review: ‘The Dragon Prince’ Season 5 Episode 7 “Sea Legs”

Wonderstorm’s Netflix series The Dragon Prince, Season 5 Episode 7, called “Sea Legs,” continues the primary mission of Team Zym to stop Claudia (Racquel Belmonte), Terry (Benjamin Callins), and Viren (Jason Simpson) from releasing Archmage Aaravos (Erik Dellums), a powerful Startouch Elf, from his secret prison. The episode begins with Callum, Rayla (Paula Burrows), Ezran (Sasha Rojen), Azymondias, and Soren (Jesse Inocalla), alongside Bait and Stella, heading to the Sea of the Castout on Captain Villads (Peter Kelamis) and Commodore Nyx’s (Rhona Rees) sea ship, the Ruthless.

Team Zym continues their sea journey on the Ruthless to the Sea of the Castout. Along the way, the team learns that Nyx became the Ruthless commodore after “winning” it in a game called Danger Dice. However, Nyx still argues with Villads regarding the ship’s ownership because the Danger Dice game ended controversially. In addition, the three baitlings the team saved were named Sneezles, Hat, and Jellybug based on their personalities. Their journey seems to be going well. However, because Team Zym stole the three baitlings, Captain Finnegrin (Tariq Leslie) pursued the team with his sea ship, Sea Legs, the most powerful and fastest sea ship in all of Xadia. Sea Legs is Finnegrin’s pet giant crab coated into a sea ship with vast sails, making the sea ship a swift and durable sea ship that can avoid obstacles.

Since Sea Legs is a fast ship, Callum attempted to use Sky Magic to make the Ruthless sail faster and once used another spell to stop Sea Legs from moving with its sails. Callum’s Sky Magic spell fails, and the group has to travel through a shipwreck called Garlaath’s Teeth to stop Finnegrin from pursuing them. The plan fails because Sea Legs is a giant crab that can traverse over dangerous obstacles and lands with its legs. Due to Sea Legs’ speed and status as a fast and mighty giant crab, Finnegrin captures the Ruthless and the protagonists on board. With a flip of a coin, Finnegrin orders his crew to take Team Zym, Villads, and Nyx to the brig while Elmer (Dave Ward) brings Callum to the captain’s quarters. Finnegrin plans to use Callum’s skills as a primal mage who knows Dark Magic.

In the Sunfire camp, Kim’dael (Laara Sadiq) infiltrates the Sunfire Elf temple and slaughters many Sunfire Elf and Katolis human soldiers in her path. Janai (Rena Anakwe) confronts the Bloodmoon Huntress at the Sun Tree, where the Sun Seed is. The two duel ends with Janai emerging victorious due to her sword-fighting prowess and heat-mode combat skills. However, Kim’dael defeats the Sunfire Queen after the latter is distracted. The Scarlet Shadow attempts to steal the Sun Seed but learns it is somewhere else, forcing Kim’dael to take the defeated Janai unconscious to secure the seed via a prisoner and Sun Seed exchange. The aftermath of the events shocked Amaya, who learned about Janai’s capture from Gren (Adrian Petriw) and Corvus (Omari Newton). The end credits would reveal Janai had Sunfire General Miyana to protect the Sun Seed. The Sun Seed’s protection probably won’t go well since Miyana (Cecilly Day) is Karim’s friend and lover despite seemingly cutting ties with him.

Kim’dael kidnaps Janai

In Season 5 of The Dragon Prince, the seventh episode ends with the villains victorious over the heroes: Kim’dael kidnapping Janai and Finnegrin capturing Team Zym. Although Kim’dael could have killed Janai during their duel, the Bloodmoon Huntress chose not to because Janai knew where the Sun Seed was. Also, Kim’dael could not kill former Sunfire Queen Aditi’s descendants, or the Bloodmoon Huntress’ collar would tighten and kill her. On the other hand, Finnegrin is very vengeful when someone steals, attacks, lies, or crosses him, so he becomes determined to hunt down, capture, and brutally punish Team Zym for stealing his three baitlings: Sneezles, Hat, and Jellybug. The punishment will likely be brutal in a pirate-like fashion, which might involve torture, being fed to sea creatures, or something far worse.
