In the previous episode of Netflix’s The Crown, the relationship between Dodi Fayed (Khalid Abdalla) and Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) was exposed to the public. Once the relationship between the two of them was made public, Prince Charles (Dominic West) was upset. Not because she was in a new relationship, but because all of the tabloids focused on that news. Because of how he felt, he decided that it was time for him and his sons, Harry (Fflyn Edwards) and William (Rufus Kampa), to have a photoshoot. Diana and Charles agreed to be communicative and respectful towards each other for the sake of their boys, being good co-parents. It was clear that the two of them did not have any envy or hatred towards one another.
The sixth season’s third episode, ‘Dis-Moi Oui’, focuses on Diana’s personal life and relationship with Dodi. In the first scene of the episode, Diana is on the yacht with Dodi. Dodi’s father Mohamed (Salim Daw) still pushes Dodi on his relationship with the princess. He has made it clear that he wants to make sure that she and Dodi are on good terms and that they are moving forward with their relationship. Mohamed has also been vocal about how much power and money will come with being companionate with Diana.
After the opening credits, Dodi and Diana both have something to tell each other. Dodi tells her they can discuss their matters when they get off the boat. Diana didn’t want to be out in public, as she was understandably tired of the paparazzi. While they are out in town, they have their fun. They talk about Dodi and his ex-fianceé’s relationship. Dodi also apologizes to her for being so private with all of the chaos that’s been going on lately.
Diana expresses that all of the paparazzi and having no privacy make her want to leave the country. As they’re talking, people start to figure out that it’s Princess Diana there and they get crowded. The couple leaves quickly, finding a store to hide in for the time being. As they make it to the boat, photographers come quickly, snapping pictures as fast as possible, putting Diana on edge. Dodi calls his father about a ring that Diana had pointed out to him. It was an engagement ring from the ‘Dis-Moi Oui’ collection. Mohamed tells him to get that ring for her and propose to her. Throughout the episode, as clear as it has been through the season so far, Mohamed is still pressuring Dodi on his relationship with Diana.
After that scene, the viewers get a view on the other side of things, with the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth (Imelda Staunton) and King Philip (Jonathan Pryce) discuss their worries about the divorce with Princess Anne (Claudia Harrison). Anne seems worried about William becoming more quiet and reserved around everyone. She tells her father that he needs to get out more and not stay cooped up in his home.
Diana and Dodi travel to Paris and as they’re in the airport, paparazzi are yelling about Dodi’s previous relationship, making it awkward for the new couple. Diana gets blindsided by the sudden change of destination, making it to the Windsor Palace. She gets frustrated because she has a phone call scheduled with her boys.
Diana and Dodi travel to Paris and are hounded by the paparazzi at the airport. Diana is blindsided as they question Dodi about his previous relationship, making it awkward for the new couple. Because of this delay, the couple arrive at the hotel too late and Diana misses a scheduled phone call with her sons.
While there, Dodi goes to the store and buys the engagement ring Diana commented on. But, tension starts to form between Dodi and Diana as they face the difficulties of the paparazzi and Mohamed’s pressure. Diana finally gets to talk to the boys, and William asks about her and Dodi’s relationship. This prompts Diana and Dodi to come to an agreement. Despite Dodi proposing to her, she declines and they decide to just remain as friends from now on.
As the two of them leave, the paparazzi are still there and it’s a lot of them. The ending scene starts to look familiar, showing the man who was walking his dog in the first episode of the season. It takes the viewers to that time right before the couple gets into a car accident.
This episode wasn’t as good as the others. It feels like the series is starting to drag things off and it’s slowing down, putting things in episodes that seem to not be interesting for the viewers. The actors still do a great job portraying these very famous roles, but it seems the only important plot being showcased for the viewers to watch and learn about is Dodi and Diana’s relationship, along with the hardships of Diana and her sons, and Queen Elizabeth and hers.
