Review: ‘The Beauty’ Season 1, Episode 8 “Beautiful Brothers”

Episode 8 of The Beauty begins with Byron practicing the speech he’ll use to reveal The Beauty to the public at a convention. Afterwards, a bright, flashy pharmaceutical commercial promoting the drug plays.

The episode then resumes with the Condé Nast staffers—now transformed—confined inside a quarantined room. Ashley, Cooper’s former interview subject from Episode 4, tries to comfort his friend. When a small opening appears in the wall, the group rushes toward it, scrambling over one another for a serving of gray, sludge-like food. Moments later, a hatch in the ceiling swings open, and masked gunmen descend into the room. They shoot all the staffers, ending in a bloody massacre.

We return to Cooper and Jordan, still confined in the truck alongside Antonio and Jeremy. The two captives communicate by blinking in Morse code. Jordan hints to Jeremy that Antonio hasn’t revealed the virus’s true consequence—his unavoidable combustion. Just then, the truck finally stops. Antonio and Jeremy step out, leaving masked gunmen to climb inside and handle Cooper and Jordan. Moments later, two more gunmen ambush Antonio and Jeremy from behind, yanking bags over their heads.

Back at Byron’s home, he sits at the table with Franny and their two sons, Tig and Gunther, celebrating Gunther’s birthday. The boys pitch their new business idea to Byron—“Abroha,” a streaming service catered specifically for “bros.” Unimpressed, Byron snaps at them and orders them to leave.

Cooper jolts Antonio awake—they’re trapped in the quarantined room, surrounded by the bodies of the dead Condé Nast staffers. As Cooper frantically looks for an escape, Jeremy unleashes his anger on Antonio. Watching from above is the newly transformed Meyer. Suddenly, gunmen burst in and drag Cooper out of the room.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the launch of The Beauty, Byron cuts funding for the scientific projects that he had previously been funding in favor of Ray’s foundation.

Cooper is escorted into an isolated room surrounded by glass screens. On the other side, Meyer appears and reveals who he truly is. When Cooper realizes Meyer betrayed him and Jordan, he erupts in anger. As guards take him away yet again, Meyer reminds him, “Do as you’re told.”

Back at Byron’s mansion, Franny is devastated to learn that the pressure of launching “Abroha” has driven their sons to relapse yet again. Then, in a shocking turn, Byron brings out the boys—now newly transformed. She stares at them, completely shocked. They urge Franny to transform as well so they can become a “new” happy family. She sternly refuses.

The episode ends with Cooper being thrown back into the quarantined room with the others. In private, he tells Jordan that the man watching them from above is Meyer whom he believes is actually trying to help them. At that moment, the ceiling hatch swings open and gunmen drop down. Instead of opening fire, they order the group to climb aboard. Jordan hesitates, but Cooper says to “do as you’re told.” All four of them comply and the gunmen hoist them upwards.

Episode 8 of The Beauty heightens the suspense as the stakes continue to rise. The drug’s official launch draws closer, while the show’s two main protagonists are in the hands of The Corporation. In a sharp twist, even Antonio and Jeremy seem to fall victim to the very organization they’ve been serving. The episode also underscores just how calculating and ruthless Byron can be. When he severs ties with a research initiative led by Dr. Diana Starling, she threatens to take her work elsewhere in anger. Byron reminds her of the contract she signed—one that ensures all patents and physical materials revert to him. In contrast, Franny stands out as the sole character strong enough to resist Byron’s influence, which makes her all the more compelling. Meanwhile, Meyer’s true intentions regarding Cooper and the others remain unclear, adding another layer of intrigue. Altogether, the episode effectively sets the stage for an exciting next episode.
