Continuing through, episode 4 starts with Aggie listening to a podcast, while Brian, limping away, gets taken in a van. He is then brought to a woman named Simone, who agrees to help decode the files, on the understanding that he will owe her a favor.
Aggie gets a phone call from the Ingrams’ attorney, saying they are willing to meet her in the afternoon. Nile heads to MHJ Real Estate Corp and is told by his father about the partnership with The Montgomery Group. Esme tells Martin and Nile that they only need one vote to secure the council’s approval, and who’s most likely to flip. Nile tells them it’s a waste of time and that they need to focus on Olivia Benitez.
Aggie meets the Ingrams, Madison’s parents, to talk about Maddy. While speaking about Nile, the parents reveal that Nile vouched for Aggie and that they feel awful about the way the press hounded Nile. They also say that Maddy was bipolar, had a lot of anger, and attempted suicide two years before her death. Nile found her in the bathtub and was trying to save her. Finally, they give Aggie a copy of the suicide note.
Back at the house, Brian follows Nile Jarvis to the warehouse after the encrypted files revealed a live recording of Teddy, who is alive but battered. At the warehouse, Nile tries unsuccessfully to convince Olivia to flip her vote. Afterwards, Brian attempts to place Nile under arrest. The two wrestle for the gun, and Nile winds up bludgeoning Brian to death. Nile then pays Aggie a visit, and they share a glass of wine.
This episode was good, but the reveal of him possibly being a killer was ruined a bit by the “he might have killed Teddy” scenario in episode 2. His beating the hell out of Brian and killing him would have been more of a surprising reveal if they had just stated that Teddy killed himself, leading you to think that Nile could have possibly killed him. Then, the parents’ saying he was innocent could have added extra doubt, leading to what would have been a bigger surprise that he was a murderer. Context-wise, the episode is a little better than the last one, but it could have had a stronger reveal if they hadn’t made it as obvious in the previous episodes.
