This episode begins with Tom and his team investigating and trying to find Sam, the biker couple’s kid from the previous episode. We then get a quick scene of the soon-to-be-named Jayson of the Dark Hearts Biker gang, who is informed of Derrick and Joane (the actual names of the couple). Cliff and Robbie are shown to be hiding out with Sam in Robbie’s home. At this moment, it seems like the world is coming down on them. They are used to having successful and fluent plans. They aren’t used to having plans go awry, and now they have to hide from the FBI and keep an extra kid under wraps. Not only do they have a new child problem on their hands, but what they stole from the house turns out not to be money, but fentanyl or some other drugs in the bag. Robbie and Cliff decide to sell it to get money, having it sent to an accomplice to be tested to see if it’s pure fentanyl, which could bring them extra money.
In the next scene, we meet the biker couple’s friends, who discuss the next steps. This brings the possibility that they could be an additional search party in addition to the FBI. Now, we meet Peaches’ wife, Kelly, and her father, as the FBI questions them about his whereabouts and tells them about his possible involvement with the robbers. Kelly, of course, is in denial about it.

Skipping ahead a bit, we then see Emily talking to a friend about Tom, the family impact statement, and her brother Ethan. We learn from this conversation that she’s scared of her brother being released from prison and his mental health struggles, which shows why she may be hesitant and distant about the impact statement.
After that, it’s back to the abandoned bunker, where Tom and his team are talking about Sam and his relationship with his parents, Derrick and Joane. It’s revealed that he was with the grandma because Derrick and Joane were actually terrible parents, charged with neglect, and the only reason he was back in their arms was because the grandmother fell ill, and there was no one else the kid could be brought to for care. As twisted as this may sound, it seems that Sam may have it better with Robbie and Cliff, as he receives better care and some real attention. We also learn about the aforementioned Jayson — handpicked by a guy named Perry to be the president of the Dark Hearts biker gang — and the possibility of a mole within the gang. We then meet Perry in person, speaking to Jayson about the Dark Hearts losing faith in him, and the monumental screw up of having a kid taken. Somehow, the gang also knows about Tom Brandis and his task force. This then begs the question of “Is there a mole in the FBI? Or are these guys as good as the FBI?”

Meave is then shown returning from her job, where Sam is revealed to Robbie’s family, and he quickly comes up with a lie about knowing his parents from work. Later, Robbie is caught in a lie when Sam tells Maeve that his last name is Nance, not Larson.
Later, we get to Tom’s house, where the family attorney is talking to Emily, Tom, and Sarah (Tom’s other daughter) about the impact statement. After an argument, Emily storms out of the house.
Maeve, seemingly wanting to not only help the kid but also get back at her uncle, brings Sam to a store and leaves him there to report him to 911. Sam gets back in the car just as the FBI arrives, after which the FBI sets up a checkpoint to examine cars for the missing kid. Maeve brings the FBI to her job and lies about Sam’s whereabouts, identifying him as a random kid in a lineup. She likely does this after realizing what it could do to her and her family.
The biker gang then proceeds to beat up the rat in the next scene, and Tom finds Emily crying and hiding in the dugout where her brother was found after his freakout. After all of the chaos and hardships, Maeve returns to the house with Sam in her arms, running into Robbie in the process. She looks dead at him and says, “What have you done to us?”
Overall, this episode improved on the last one and felt more engaging. The twists and possibility of Sam being found and exposing Robbie and Cliff to the biker gang, being a new enemy to deal with, definitely keeps viewers on the edge of their seats more.
