In Season 1, Episode 2 of the Disney Plus series Tales of the Empire, titled “The Path of Anger,” the narrative unfolds in Coruscant as Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) of Corvus meets with leaders of the Imperial Navy. Elsbeth introduces her design of the TIE/d “Defender” Multi-Role Starfighter: a TIE-fighter that allows for increased maneuverability, lower fuel consumption, and better shields to protect the pilots, keeping them on the field of battle for longer intervals. Elsbeth offers to use the planet Corvus and its neighboring worlds in its star system to mine their raw goods and materials to help construct the TIE defenders. Moff Isdain (Tom Konkle) and the Imperial leaders thank Magistrate Elsbeth for her offer, but see the cost for the project as astronomical and opt to just conquer Corvus and its neighboring worlds for their resources to support other feasible projects. Despite Morgan’s failed presentation, it catches the eye of Captain Gilad Pellaeon (Xander Berkeley). Pellaeon sees potential in Morgan’s project and decides to keep tabs on her on behalf of Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson).
The rejection of the TIE-Defender project is hard for Morgan as it could have given the people of Corvus a chance to finally work and earn money. The villagers are angry at Morgan for failing to help lead the village to prosperity and for displaying tyrannical behavior. Morgan becomes paranoid that the entire village will turn against her after everything she has done for them. The magistrate reflects on this one night until she is ambushed by Rukh (Warwick Davis), who duels Elsbeth in order to test her skills and abilities as a Nightsister. Morgan defeats Rukh and is about to kill the Imperial agent until Captain Pellaeon interferes and thanks Rukh for testing Morgan’s capabilities. Pellaeon then leaves to give Admiral Thrawn the privacy he needs to question Morgan and why she offers her services to the Galactic Empire.
Morgan answers that she desires revenge and has a strong will to stay alive in order to keep Dathomir’s traditions alive, following the Battle of Dathomir. She offers the anger and the strength that fuel her vengeance for the Empire, which Thrawn accepts and inducts Elsbeth into his inner circle. Thrawn then has his fleet conquer Corvus and its neighboring worlds so their resources could be used for the TIE-Defender Project. Long live the Empire.
