Review: ‘Talamasca: The Secret Order’ Season 1, Episode 6 “The 752”

Previously on AMC’s Talamasca: The Secret Order, after making a deal with Helen to get protection, Guy and Doris spend time together, hiding from Jasper. They plan to go to America. Olive is the mole, and she’s been working with Jasper to take down Helen and the Talamasca.

The episode begins in the year 1985, with a vampire wanting to see the Deputy Minister. But two men take him elsewhere, to the Talamasca Headquarters. A man named Houseman questions him about killing two vampires. Houseman takes him to another room, where there’s a body lying on a surgical table. He makes the man turn the unconscious woman, whom we learn to be Doris.

Next, we see Guy and Doris still in the secret Talamasca house. Doris wakes up and leaves while Guy is still asleep. Meanwhile, at the coven’s boathouse, Jasper and his driver look inside after the massacre created by Checkers to find the 752 and any signs of Guy. They don’t have any luck.

Guy follows Doris to a store, and he confronts her. She tells him that she’s leaving, but they find out on the news that Doris’s coven has been attacked. Doris feels guilty as the two watch from afar, as the police have now made the boathouse a crime scene. The detective finds the two of them and takes them to the station for questioning. The detective shows them the camera footage of  Guy when Keves was murdered. She also shows them images of Guy with Helen. They learn that Helen’s DNA was found on Keves. Olive shows up, pretending to be an agent, and speaks to them alone.

Helen visits Mr. Jameson and asks about her sister, Emma. Emma turns out to be Doris. Before he can say much about the 752 and the fire at the library, his housekeeper shoots him.

After getting them away from the station, Olive lies, warning Guy to stay away from Helen, saying that she’s dangerous. He gets a weird vibe and reads her mind. Noticing that Doris has the 752 in her bag, he opens the car door for her to leave, but doesn’t realize Jasper’s driver is inside. The car speeds off with Guy chasing after it to save Doris.  Doris kills the driver, revealing her vampiric identity to Guy. She tries to go for Olive, but Guy holds her back, allowing Olive to leave. Afterward, the two of them go back into the car, Doris hiding in the trunk because of the daylight.

Later, we see Guy looking at what he thinks is the 752, but it turns out to be Keves’ scrapbook. Guy tells Doris that this changes everything, with him now knowing she’s a vampire. Doris lets Guy read her mind and look at her memories. She tells him that she’s the 752 and escaped the Talamasca years ago. She was the one who killed Archie after finding her best friend dead. He also learns that Helen, whose name is Fiona, is her sister. Guy says, “The detective had the right DNA,” before Doris says, “But the wrong twin.”

Guy and Doris wait for Helen at the train station, but Helen’s being followed. She tells a police officer that she’s wanted for murder, which makes the followers go away.

Jasper is dragged to the Talamasca Headquarters, wrists chained, and a muzzle on his face. He enters the office alone, and Houseman is waiting for him. He makes a deal with Jasper —he will help Jasper if Jasper helps him. The scene is a parallel of the beginning of the episode, as Houseman takes Jasper into a room where there are unconscious human bodies inside, ready to be turned.

While they’re on the boat, Doris tells Guy, “I think I know where your mother is.”

Overall, this episode was spectacular. It was a great way to end the season. Nicholas Denton and Elizabeth McGovern did great with their roles as Guy and Helen. It was shocking to find out that Doris is Helen’s sister. It was very entertaining to see William Fichtner as a vampire; Jasper was such a mysterious and captivating character. This episode had lots of plot twists, and the answers were finally revealed —the biggest being that the 752 wasn’t a book but a person—Doris. Given how the episode ended, it’s clear another season is coming, which is exciting.
