Previously on Prime Video’s Sterling Point, after the group spends time together with Maple on her last day of camp, Ramona abruptly learns about the guardianship, which Ellis and Annie kept hidden from her.
The episode begins with everyone, including Rory, Joe, and Steven, searching for Ramona. After driving around the lake, Steven and Rory go back to Denise’s. Rory is bothered that Denise and Connor are taking this situation as a joke.
Joe confronts Ellis after finding his hidden stash of money. When he asks where he got all of it from, Ellis admits that he’s been taking fifty dollars here and there from customers. Ellis is concerned that the family won’t have enough money, so he’s saving up as a safety net.
Ramona is in her childhood home when she gets a knock on the door and sees Oona. They end up in the room where Gordon spent his last days, the hospital bed still there. Ramona says she’s scared, and Oona tells her that she loves her. They decide to go back home.
While playing kickball, Rory tells Connor he’s worried that Annie likes Ellis over him. Conner assures him that Annie won’t make it with Ellis, telling Rory, “You’re endgame, sweetie.”
When Ramona comes back, Annie scolds her for leaving. Ramona forgives Annie and admits that she met with Gordon’s lawyer. She has a form that Joe can fill out to give up guardianship. Next, Ramona talks to Ellis and jokes about her half-siblings being lovey-dovey with each other. Meanwhile, Annie finds Rory playing his piano. Rory tells her that his dad can help her get into school, but Annie says that she plans to stay at Sterling Point.
Ramona talks to Joe about the guardianship. Joe apologizes and tells her that everything was complicated. When Goldie passed, there was no way to make a clear decision on what to do with Ramona and the twins. Joe tells her that Gordon tried to make Steven get her and the twins to build a relationship, but Steven didn’t want that. He comments that he always knew that he was Ramona’s dad, but she responds that he wasn’t; Gordon showed up as her dad.
She gives him the form from Gordon’s lawyer, but he doesn’t sign it, knowing that Gordon wanted him to be her guardian.
Ramona goes home and reads Gordon’s letter. He wrote that she gave him a second chance to have a daughter after Goldie died. Later, she tells Annie about the letter. Annie tells her about kissing Ellis.
The next day, Ramona tells Steven that she thinks he might be her real dad, asking him to take a DNA test.
Episode 6 was good, highlighting a lot of emotional moments that carried from the previous episode. A major theme highlighted was fatherhood, as Gordon, Steven, and Joe represent different aspects of it. It begs to question what makes a father: merely a biological connection, in Steven’s case; marrying one’s mother, in Joe’s case; or being there when needed, as Gordon was for Ramona. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was amazing as Joe, portraying a more emotional side in his performance.
