Review: ‘Run Away’ Season 1, Episode 3 “Breaking Point”

A flashback. Elena is serving as a police officer 25 years prior. She is busting criminals and gets shot. She also meets her future husband, Joel, who visits her in the hospital. Back to the present day, she is seen sharing a drink in front of Joel’s headstone.

Simon and Elena are at Aaron’s flat, and they form a friendship as Paige is connected to Elena’s most recent case regarding Henry. Elena revealed to Simon that she found out about Paige through an email she sent from a University email, Sam’s University.

Back at the hospital, Ingrid is still in critical condition. Issac and Ruby have also been doing more research because they’re still suspicious about her having an affair with her coworker, Jay. Simon pulls Sam aside to interrogate him about whether or not he spent time with Paige right before she went missing. Sam eventually breaks down and confesses that Paige stayed with him and ended up robbing him. Sam then went to his Aunt Yvonne and claimed that he had been robbed, but he didn’t mention Paige at all. Yvonne was the one helping Sam with the money in the previous episode.

Elena informs Simon that Aaron’s memorial is the next day. She advises him to go in case Paige may turn up. He agrees. Elena then quickly flees as she needs to be somewhere. This somewhere is Maria’s house, the woman that she has been keeping an eye on. Elena breaks into the house and starts investigating. She finds a picture of her colleague, Lou, takes it, and flees.

It is revealed that Ash and Dee are actually ex-foster siblings and not a couple, although previous episodes definitely hinted at a potential romantic relationship. Dee tells Ash that they’re going somewhere, but she keeps it from him.

Issac then interrogates Jay regarding the footage that he and Ruby saw. Ingrid had clocked out early the night Aaron was murdered. Jay then tells Issac about how Ingrid does that regularly as she picks up food for the nurses. This happens to be true, but Issac and Ruby learn that Ingrid asked to leave through a different doorway. At Aaron’s funeral, Simon meets his parents. He decides he wants to get closer to Aaron’s mother as she seems like an easier target.
Elena then goes to the crime scene where Ash and Dee shot and killed the owner in the previous episode. She meets the victim’s husband, and he invites her to look through the database for Henry. Elena finds out that the owner of the tattoo shop and Henry were both adopted from the same agency.

Simon tracks down Aaron’s mother, and he learns that Aaron’s father is a massive liar. It turns out the woman whom Simon was talking to is Aaron’s stepmother. Aaron’s father claims that his real mother died, but his wife isn’t buying it. Simon goes back to Aaron’s father and learns Paige was the one who tracked down Aaron, causing the problems in the first place. Simon frantically tries to call Elena with this new information. He comes across a trailer that Aaron used to spend time in, and he finds Paige’s jacket. He is shocked.

This episode had many storylines. Sometimes, it was a bit hard to keep track of what was happening when and which characters to pay the most attention to, because they all have so many dynamics. Future episodes will hopefully unravel everything. It was surprising to see Simon quickly trust what Aaron’s father had to say about Paige, especially because he just learned about how big a liar he is. The storyline between Ingrid and Jay is also really interesting, adding a new level that could relate to the murder of Aaron. Simon is a great protagonist because he becomes more passionate about Paige’s disappearance as the episodes continue.

Rating: 8.5/10
